Rafael Nadal prepares for another French Open final against Dominic Thiem, while Simona Halep hopes for her first Grand Slam title.
The winner of the French Open will be determined this weekend, with the womens’ finals being scheduled for Saturday and the men’s on Sunday. In both competitions the first seeds have reached the deciding stages, with the semi finals in the ATP competitions scheduled for Friday. Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep have confirmed their favorite status and are credited with the first chance to lift the trophy. The Spaniard has done it before many times, but for the Romanian player this would be a first.
ATP Tennis Fans Prepare for another Nadal vs Thiem Final
Last year, Rafael Nadal won the final act of the competition with extreme ease against Dominic Thiem. The multiple Spanish champion didn’t lose a single set and crushed his competitor in the final while losing only seven games. In 2018, he has a slightly more difficult task during the tournament, but eventually lost no more than one set per match. 10bet Sportsbook gives him odds of 3/10 even before the semi finals, which is a clear sign of confidence.
Rafael Nadal will play against Juan Martin Del Potro, while Dominic Thiem takes on the Italian surprise Marco Checchinato. Both are overwhelming favorite to advance to the final and are given odds of 1/10 at 888 Sport. Nadal won 10 games against the Argentinean and lost just five, including two matches played in 2017. He was dominant on clay and also won against Juan Martin back in 2007 in the only match played at Roland Garros. The odds are also low for the player from Spain to win in straight sets.
Dominic Thiem has emerged as the most talented young player and the best clay tennis player of his generation. He survived a couple of early scares at the French Open this year, but he is likely to outshine Marco Checchinato. In the semi final, his superior experience should make the difference, but the Italian is not to be underestimated. He already defeated great players, such as Djokovic and Goffin after being on the verge of elimination in the first round. In the two direct games each won one.
Simona Halep Takes Another Jab at the Trophy
The Romanian has played two French Open finals already and lost them both. The first one was against Maria Sharapova and the most recent one last year against Jelena Ostapenko. Both matches were decided in three sets, but the 2017 Halep was the big favorite to prevail. She is once again credited with the first chance by 10bet Sportsbook and odds that revolve around 2/5. Simona played amazingly well in the semi final two defeat one of the former Roland Garros champions, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.
Sloane Stephens won U.S. Open last year after defeating Madison Keys in the final. The two Americans had the chance to play once again, this time on the clay of the French Open, in the semi finals. The outcome was the same and Stephens wrapped up an excellent performance in Paris with a victory in two sets. While not being traditionally a clay player, she is in excellent form and punters can enjoy odds as high as 2/1 with 888 Sport. Halep has a better head to head record, with six victories and two defeats, including four victories in the last matches.
Regardless of who wins this year’s Roland Garros, tennis players are in for a treat in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The finals take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon after 2 PM GMT.
