Turner Prize 2013 Betting

The prestigious Turner Prize is an award for contemporary artists that was set up in 1984 to award new projects in the contemporary art world. Each year since its establishment, the Turner Prize is given to a British artist under 50 years of age in honor of an outstanding exhibition or similar presentation in the prior year.  The potential recipients of the prize are nominated and then selected by an independent jury that changes annually.  The list of nominees is sifted down to 4 outstanding contemporary artists who are asked to prepare a show usually at the Tate Britain until the outright winner is declared in December.

The Shortlist

The four artists that have been shortlisted for this award this year are: 

• Laure Prouvost - for her work entitled Wantee at the Tate and Grizedale Arts.
• Tino Sehgal - for his works entitled This Variation at documenta (XIII) These Associations at the Tate Modern.
• David Shrigley - for his exhibition at Hayward Gallery David Shrigley entitled Brain Activity.
• Lynette Yiadom-Boakye - for her Chisenhale Gallery exhibition called Extracts and Verses.
