UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals: Odds, Preview, and PredictionsPublished April 3, 2018 by Sol FH
The quarterfinals are finally here, and we will look at which teams have the best shot to move on.
It is finally here, the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals first leg will begin tonight and tomorrow (Wed. April 4) from 19:45 GMT. We are down to eight teams, the best eight teams of the tournament thus far, but for the bottom four clubs, will there be any surprises? This year things look a little lopsided, with Barcelona, Man. City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich facing off against the underdogs; Roma, Liverpool, Juventus, and Sevilla.
Possibly a ray of hope shines on Liverpool, Sevilla, and Juventus in the first leg, as they are all on home turf. According to two of the most popular online sportsbooks; Betfair Sports and 888 Sport, this doesn't make much of a difference, and the three underdogs playing at home are still just underdogs.
Barcelona vs. Roma
The season that Barcelona has had so far in league play includes 23 wins and seven draws. They have yet to lose a single match! The Catalans are at the top of their game and so far, no one has been able to stop them. In the round of sixteen, Barca flew past Chelsea with a draw at Stamford Bridge in the first leg, followed by a 3-0 win at Camp Nou. Messi has been brilliant, as would be expected from the best player in the world, including three goals and an assist in the last round. Roma will need a miracle to beat Barcelona, and the odds tell the same story.
At Betfair Sports, Barca is the favorite in the first leg at 1.22, while Roma is listed at 15.00, and a draw at 7.00.
Liverpool vs. Man. City
Honestly, this could be the only match-up in which the underdog has a real shot at winning. In his last twelve meetings against the Reds, Jurgen Klopp has gotten the win. True, this stretches all the way back to his days with Dortmund, but he is in high hopes that his team will defeat Pep Guardiola in the first leg at Anfield.
The odds at 888 Sport are not in the Reds' favor, and they are down at 3.00, while City is at 2.38.
Juventus vs. Real Madrid
The last meeting between Real and Juventus was in the Champions League Finals, a match-up that was won by Real which hoisted its second trophy in two consecutive years after winning 4-1. Real Madrid is going to try and make it three wins in a row, and a record-breaking 13th title (they hold the record with 12). Real will be without Nacho who is injured after the last match against Las Palmas. Juventus will be without Miralem Pjanic and Medhi Benatia who are both suspended and out of contention for the first leg.
Betfair Sports also has Real as the visiting favorites tonight at 2.50 to win. Juventus are not too far behind at 3.20.
Sevilla vs. Bayern Munich
This will be the first meeting between the teams in the European championships. Sevilla is attempting to reach its very first Champions League semifinals, but, Bayern is playing quite well, and Sevilla's chances are slim. After knocking-out Manchester United in the last round, Sevilla has shown that it can beat the best in the world. The issue is, Bayern is on a streak that includes beating Dortmund 6-0 over the weekend, and, they are just one win away from retaining their league title, so the momentum is definitely with the Germans.
888 Sport posts odds in favor of Bayern at 1.61, and, for Sevilla at 5.50 for the first leg.
