State authorities grant final approval to only legal online poker room.
Ultimate Gaming has received final approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission to continue operating the state's only legal online poker website.
Successful Trial
Ultimate Gaming, controlled by Station Casinos, has been operating Ultimate Poker in-state since April 30 as part of a field trial to demonstrate that it meets new Nevada regulations. Clearly state authorities were impressed by the poker room's ability to deliver 9.1 million hands in a clean, legal environment.
As part of the approval proves, Ultimate Gaming CTO Chris Derossi gave the authorities detailed data on the trial. While financial details were not make public, he did reveal that UP has operated around 100,000 poker tournaments since the April launch.
Ultimate Poker was found to have complied with Nevada's new state laws, which restrict gaming to players wagering from computers or mobile devices while stationed within state boundaries.
Unseen Impact
In addition to giving Nevada residents the freedom to play online poker as they wish, Ultimate Poker's inclusion is having a positive impact off the tables as well - by boosting employment and state revenues.
According to some estimates, around 70 new jobs have been created by Ultimate Poker's entry into the Nevada marketplace. Experts say employment will continue to rise if global operators like William Hill and PokerStars achieve their aims of being a part of the US online gambling revolution.
