Unlikely Challengers to Champions League Spots Play on Saturday
Published March 30, 2019 by Florin P
The Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga are rocked on Saturday by games involving the latest Champions League challengers.
Some of the most intense matches of the week will be played on Saturday and many of them don’t even involve prominent teams. That’s because across the continent, some smaller football clubs have achieved spectacular results this season and their expectations continue to grow. In the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, punters can find plenty of such balanced games with excellent odds at top bookmakers.
Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Leipzig are Big Favorites
Bayern Munich and Dortmund are still tied for the lead, with the reigning champions ahead because of superior goal difference. Both are expected to win on Saturday in the matches scheduled at 2:30 PM UK time, although only Dortmund plays at home. They have the more difficult match against Wolfsburg and punters who bet on their victory will be paid at 1/2 at bet365 Sports.
We currently only get odds of 1/4 on Bayern Munich to beat Freiburg on the road and consolidate their position. Leipzig has struggled in recent matches, but the team has the perfect chance to make amends this weekend. That’s because it plays at home against Hertha Berlin, a team that is notoriously bad in the matches played on the road. 888 Sport prices a home win at 1/2, while giving 6/1 on the visitors.
Alaves and Getafe have Big Plans this Season
Getafe proudly sit in the fourth place and if the season was to end right away, they would qualify for the Champions League. They can still consolidate their position by defeating Leganes at home, in a match where Winner Sports offers even odds on a home win. Alaves also have home pitch advantage, but because they play against Atletico Madrid, they are big underdogs. Odds of 4/1 offered on a surprising home win are nevertheless tempting and should be considered by veteran punters.
AC Milan is Closer to a Champions League Berth
AC Milan have missed a great opportunity of overtaking their city rivals and claiming the third spot on the podium. They can do it on Saturday and 7:30 PM UK time, if they defeat Sampdoria on the road. Intertops credits them with the first chance, but only barely, as the odds on an away victory currently stand at 13/10. By comparison, Sampdoria get odds of 23/10 thanks to their solid home record in 2019.
