US Online Gambling Updates

The everlasting issue of online gambling legislation and its complications in the United States continues. The last few weeks have seen a number of cases and occasions dealing with the legitimacy of online gambling in the country. The Internet Poker Consumer Protection Act of 2013 vouches for exclusivity for the state's existing Tribal casinos and card rooms, all the while excluding all other gambling venues including pari-mutuel outlets. The bill also calls for the rejection of any federal online gambling legislation, thus making this an exclusive California enactment. Considering California is the most populous state in the United States, a positive movement in this direction could signal good things for other states; however, the exclusion of non-tribal gambling venues along with the desirable secession from other federal online gambling laws could prove very problematic.   

Expansion Freeze

A bill promoting the addition of five new casinos in the state of Illinois has been deserted by its pursuer, Rep. Robert Rita, effectively dropping the bill altogether for the time being. Rita has pushed for the establishment of several Casinos in the state and in the area of Chicago, but in the last minute he has decided to stop pursing the bill due to strong opposition, especially from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn who has already vetoed two laws calling for the expansion of gambling in the state. Yet, optimism for advancements in Illinois gambling still remains. Rita told a Chicago newspaper that he is planning on returning with the bill in the fall.

Online Gambling Bill Comes to a Halt

Back in April, fresh spring breezes were blowing in the state of Pennsylvania with the introduction of a bill to allow Gambling establishments within the state to offer online gambling options. This was done in the spirit of pro-gambling bills passed in the neighboring states, Delaware and New-Jersey. However the main promoter of the bill, Rep. Tina Pickett, has decided to put the advancement of the bill on hold in order to see the actual procession of the online gambling bills in Delaware, New-Jersey and Nevada. If the state of Pennsylvania ends up adopting the bill, this could be a big step for online gambling in the USA since the state is ranked second In the gaming market of the US after Nevada.
