The biggest Tennis tournament on American soil is set to serve up some of the best the ATP has to offer. Catch the action today from 17:00 GMT.
The US Open begins the first round of action today and the stars are set on making this a tournament to remember. Today's matches will feature six of the top ten seeds on the ATP, including last year's winner, Marin Cilic, Rafael Nadal and the number 1 ranked player, Serbian Novak Djokovic. Favorites on the men's side also include last year's runner up Kei Nishikori, David Ferre and Milos Raonic.
Head to Head
All eyes will be on Djokovic's match against Brazilian Joao Souza, with hopes that the world number one will get back to his winning ways and show the world why he is the best on the tour. His opponent has never won a grand slam match, and odds are stacked against him, with famed UK Sportsbook bet365 posting 67.00 for the Brazilian qualifier to win, while Djokovic is at 1.001.
Fan favorite, Rafael Nadal missed last year's US Open with a bad wrist injury, and it has been some time since we have seen the Spaniard winning a grand slam. Tonight at 00:00, he will take on the youngest player in the Top 50 ATP Rankings, 18-year old Borna Coric. Nadal was moved out of his top three ranking in 2013, and is hopeful he will be back on center stage after the first few rounds of the Open. Nadal is favored to win at 1.16, while Coric is in the underdog position at 5.00.
Kei Nishikori faces off against Benoit Paire and has defeated the Frenchman twice before. Paire won his first ever ATP World Tour title in Bastad last month, but faces the number 4 ranked player in the world and bet365 Sports thinks Kei is too much for Paire. Nishikori – 1.083, Paire – 8.00.
The last match on Armstrong tonight features reigning champion Marin Cilic going up against Guido Pella, the qualifier from Argentina. If we see the same fire that led Cilic to his first US Open title last year, all players will have a lot on their plates. It should be an easy win for Cilic at 1.083 to Pella's 8.00.
