Round 1 of the 2016 US Open is behind us and what a great day of action it was on all courts. The stars were out and did not disappoint with Murray, Raonic, Nadal, Del Potro, Wawrinka and Tsonga enjoying big wins in their opening matches. Djokovic stumbled a bit in his opener but managed to win in four sets. Now as we jump into Round 2 the field is getting better and the competition starts to improve with the chance for big upsets. The odds are stacked against the underdogs, but that could be the best time for punters to take advantage of amazing betting markets.
Novak Djokovic’s tricky first match could be a sign of what is to come for the World No.1. Having an inconsistent year and losing in key matches over the last while have left the Serb looking for his top form that seems to be eluding him lately. He needed to call in his trainer to work on his arm, which is a bad sign in the opening round. Even worse for Djokovic is his round 2 draw the Czech, Jiri Vesely is only one of four men that have beaten him since last November. Vesely beat Djokovic at Monte Carlo and it could be at Flushing Meadows where a repeat performance is near.
Andy Murray played one of the best matches of his life. His serve was the best of recent times with 11 aces and 17 unforced errors. The Scot went 6-3 6-2 6-2 against Czech Rosol, which ended his tournament hopes, but Murray looks like he is in his groove and nothing can stop him.
