US Open Round of 16: Rafael Nadal vs Alexandr Dolgopolov

Sol FH. - September 4, 2017

Rafa takes on Dolgopolov at Arthur Ashe Stadium today at 17:15 GMT.

Rafael Nadal is having one of the best years of his life on the courts. He cemented his place as the world's best of all time on clay, and is dominating his opponents so far at the US Open. Though Nadal may have to face his lifelong rival, Roger Federer in the semifinals, he must first get through Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The record between Nadal and Dolgopolov stands at six wins for the Nadal and two wins for Dolgopolov. The last time that they met was in Brisbane, Australia on the hard court, similar to the court at the US Open, and Nadal won that matchup 6-3, 6-3. The only wins by Dolgopolov were back in 2014 and 2015, the years that Nadal was having some health problems and was totally off his game and form. This year, we have seen a Nadal, circa ten years ago and even though Dolgopolov has recently come out saying that he is not afraid of Nadal, we think he should take him a bit more serious.

"It’s not any different. I’m not a young player anymore," Dolgopolov related. "I don’t think I’m going to get intimidated by the No. 1 player or the stadium or the occasion," he continued. Rafa is playing with a new hunger in his eyes. He is the No. 1 contender to win the US Open this year and the odds are in his favor ahead of this Round of 16 match.
