An all-American women's semifinal has ensured that the hardware stays in the US. Venus Williams shooting for the Finals at 00:00 GMT.

The women's side of the US Open has been one of the most interesting tournaments of the year. We have sen it all, including a huge comeback by Maria Sharapova, No. 1 ranked player Garbine Muguruza ousted early, and a lot more. One of the biggest stories is the comeback of Venus Williams, now vying for her third Grand Slam final of the year. This coming at an age where players usually call it quits. While her sister, Serena Williams introduced a new baby girl to the world a couple of weeks ago, Venus is reaping in the success that she has made for herself this season.

Head to Head

Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens have only one previous meeting under their respective belts, which was at the 2015 French Open. Stephens won that match in straight sets. Since then, a lot has changed for both players. Venus, much like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, whom are making their respective comebacks this year, is playing some of the best tennis of her life and is deserving of her third US Open title. Stephens missed most of the year following the last summer Olympics due to a foot injury. Now healthy, time will only tell if the road to the semifinals has been too much for the 24 year old from Florida.

Stephens does have some incredible motivation going into the match, as she made the semifinals in Toronto, then in Cincinnati, and is hopeful of winning her first of the year at Flushing Meadows. She rejoiced after beating Anastasija Sevastova in the quarterfinals, but faces a very tough match today at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
