With only 5 of the top ten women still in contention for the US Open, where should one place their bet?
There have been some major upsets on the women's side of the US Open, especially with regards to the top 10 ranked players in the world. Aside from Maria Sharapova, whom opted out of the tournament due to injury, there are only 5 of the top women still in contention after the first round.
Who's in, Who's Out?
Today features only one match, with a top 10 seed, the remaining 4 top ten hopefuls are on the bottom half and will play tomorrow.
The best player in the world, Serena Williams is still very much in this tournament and the way she is playing it looks like another title in NYC is in her reach. Williams takes on Kiki Bartens from the Netherlands today at 20:00 GMT and it should be another straight sets win for the American superstar. Online odds maker bet365 agrees with this outcome and has Serena at 1.010 to win, while Bartens is at a lowly 21.00.
Simona Halep is the world number two and she is on fire after her big first round win against Marina Erakovic, forcing the New Zealand hopeful out after the second game of the second set, too tired to continue. Halep goes up against Ukranian Kateryna Bondarenko tomorrow at 16:00 GMT. Halep is in the driver's seat at 1.083, while Bondarenko is at 8.00.
Petra Kvitova faces Nicole Gibbs, whom ousted Lourdes Dominquez Lino in the first round after a tough three sets, but Gibbs will need to up her game against the world number four. The odds are a bit tighter with 1.062 vs 9.00 respectively, for their match tomorrow at 16:00 GMT.
