Majesco Entertainment directs interest toward social gaming
Zynga may have abandoned its real-money gambling plans for the US, but it was only a matter till someone else filled the vacuum: Majesco Entertainment, maker of the popular Zumba Fitness game.
Majesco Eyes Social Gambling
Majesco, based in Edison, New Jersey, recently acquired casino game developer Orid Media and Isle of Man online gambling firm Pariplay, which has an existing portfolio of online slot and scratchcard games, as a part of a new push into the online gambling market, according to New Jersey news site NJ.com.
According to CFO Michael Vesey, the company is going to register for a license, "and if someone was licensed in New Jersey and operated a casino, we could provide content services to them." He added that rather than compete with Atlantic City casinos, Majesco would become their expert partner.
Future In Real-Money
Majesco has been active in exploring emerging growth opportunities in social media and online casino gaming to supplement its existing business, CEO Jesse Sutton was quoted as saying by NJ.com, while indicating that if more states follow NJ and Nevada into internet gambling it could create more customers.
According to the news site report, Majesco is taking a more measured approach than on previous forays into the social games space, by acquiring companies with proven talent and committing to investing between $3.5 million to $4.5 million depending on the venture's success.
