Australian activists are on a mission to get the government involved on a new program for gambling addicts. The voluntary program would work as an alarm, signaling any gambling addicts who attempt to enter gaming settings, by wearing an electric wristband
Tim Costello, a spokesman for Interchurch Gambling Task Force says that the bands may pass an assessment period to see how effective they are since the present sovereign code of demeanor for gaming settings and gamblers is inadequate. It actually has got to chronic proportions, 17,000 people are rendered homeless in Victoria through problem gambling." On Monday the Herald Sun reported that the new electric wristband program would probably face the Victorian Government sometime next month. A spokesman for the Gaming Minister, John Pandazopoulos stated that the Minister was not privy to the new proposed plan.
However, Costello says the unit force was only informed on Monday from reports. He further said that the activists were anxious that action be taken to stop the rise in gambling addictions. Along with the wristband plan, the unit force also backs up a binding code of conduct plan that would oblige gaming arenas to keep a tag on any gambling addicts who enter.
