Online poker's next cinematic hit is just around the corner, with the trailer for Runner, Runner released a few months ahead of its September 27 launch in movie theaters.

Produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Runner Runner is the story of a poor Princeton college student name Richie Furst (Justin Timberlake) who is cheated out of his tuition money when an online poker game goes bust.
When Furst finds out that the site which cheated him is hosted from a remote island, he travels there for a showdown with a corrupt offshore businessman named Ivan Block (Affleck). The twist is that he ends up working for Block and becomes a pawn in the subsequent FBI chase.

Online poker has been the subject of many Hollywood hits over the past decades, including Rollers, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and a number of James Bond film including a recent one starring Daniel Craig - Casino Royale.
Rounders, which was released in 1998 and stars Matt Damon and Edward Norton in a film about two friends on a mission to pay off their large debts, is perhaps the most popular poker movie of all time, so it will be interesting to see if Runner Runner enjoys the same amount of success.
