Online sportsbooks slash odds on heatwave records tumbling this summer.
Following an extended dry spell across much of England's south, online sportsbooks such as William Hill have slashed prices on heatwave records tumbling during the upcoming summer months.
Heatwave continues
Millions of people across England and Wales were preparing for a scorching May Bank holiday on Monday. The temperatures soared in the first week of the month, causing the coldest Easter on record and the disappointing start to Spring to become just a distant memory.
Meteorologists predicted that temperatures would soon rise above the April 25 record of 23 Celsius, prompting speculation that this summer is going to be particularly hot. And as is always the case with weather speculation, it prompts bookies to release some tempting odds.
Weather betting
William Hill Sports, Britain's leading online bookmaker, have cut the price of a hosepipe ban occurring anywhere in the UK this summer from 33/1 to 10/1. More specifically, they are offering odds of 16/1 on either Thames Water (covering greater London) and Anglia Water (eastern England) initiating such a prohibition.
The odds of temperatures hitting 30C at any point in May 2013 are now at 12/1, while July appears the favorite to host the hottest UK day of 2013. William Hill odds are: May, 8/1, June, 3/1, July, 7/4, August, 9/4, September, 6/1, October, 25/1.
