William Hill Suspends Philippines Operations

William Hill has proven its resiliency before.

In Manilla, Philippines, a notice of inquiry has been served to UK Bookmaker William Hill investigating allegations of illicit gambling activities in the Philippines, resulting in the temporary closure of the UK bookmaker's operations in that region.

Continuing Active Operations Not Worth It

The British corporate bookmaker maintained its Online Manila office strictly for customer support and outsourcing business processes, so the specter of an investigation was too great to justify continuing active operations while the unflattering investigation is ongoing.

Affirmed Compliance

The William Hill UK office was nonetheless quick to affirm its compliance with local laws as well as global policies in all its operations in Manila nonetheless.

As a global betting provider, William Hill maintains foreign offices outside of its UK and Gibraltar headquarters, with global offices in Tel Aviv, Israel and in Sofia, Bulgaria which also handle back office marketing and tasks similar to those being performed in Manila at this time, and we will reroute supplemental customer support functions through these existing offices.

William Hill's legitimacy as a lawful operating authority stems from its assertion of registered membership in the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, a government agency, connected to the Department of Trade and Industry.

No Interruption in Key Services Provided from Manila

Despite the closure announcement, UK William Hill has assured customers that it has put in place measures to maintain the availability of key operational services which had been provided primarily by the Manila Centre to that point.

This is not the first time William Hill experienced closures of its offices. The hearkens back to the 2011 William Hill Tel Aviv office closure: the plot at that time by some senior managers to set up a rival company resulted in the sacking of seven managers, and a breakdown of the William Hill-Playtech partnership. However, when

the dust cleared, peace was restored by an undisclosed separation settlement in exchange for a non-compete clause, showing the ability of William Hill executives to think on their feet and adapt to work stoppages.
