Wimbledon Preview: Rafael Nadal vs Donald Young
Published July 5, 2017 by Sol FH
The No.2 ranked player on the ATP, Nadal, takes on American Donald Young today at 16:30 GMT on Center Court.
Rafael Nadal is making great progress on the grass at Wimbledon so far. He trounced over Australian, John Millman in the Round of 128 ending the match in a quick 3 sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2, and will be looking to keep that momentum going against the American. Donald Young beat Denis Istomin, the Uzbek tennis player, but it was not an easy match as Young lost the first set, but came back to win the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 4-2, before Istomin retired.
Today should be an incredible match. Nadal and Young have met each other twice on the court and Nadal won both meetings. Young is ranked 43rd on the tour right now and he is improving this year. Nadal has struggled on the grass in the past, but no one can dispute that he is able to beat anyone, on any surface, at any time. He has made a big comeback this year, winning almost every clay event. He has been in great form, but Young is also very strong and it will make for a great match.
Nadal beat Young on hard surface at Indian Wells in 2008 and again in 2015. Both times Nadal won decisively 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3 respectively. He never gave Young a chance to hit his strong forehand, which is a big part to his recent success. Young has a great amount of power and his serve is also a weapon not to be underestimated. Nadal is equally, and if not stronger and more precise than Young is, which should make for an incredible contest.
