Wimbledon Round 2: Roger Federer vs. Marcus WillisPublished June 29, 2016 by Sol FH
The second round of Wimbledon gets underway today with key matches at 18:00 GMT. Will underdog Marcus Willis shock against hungry Roger Federer?
Wimbledon is in full swing and the best tennis players in the world are putting on an incredible show on the famed grass courts. The first round ended last night with few surprises. All of the top ranked players are through to the second round, but it is here when things start to get interesting in London.
Today’s most significant match is probably between seven-time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer and hometown Marcus Willis. There is no better example of a David and Goliath story that Federer vs Willis and to be on Center Court is the perfect setting for this highly-anticipated match.
Ranked a low 772nd in the world, Marcus Willis is not even close to a favorite against anyone else in the tournament. To make it into the tournament, Willis needed to go through the qualifying event, which was a tiring seven matches in his case. After a shocking first round win, the UK has another local boy to be thankful. If Willis was to beat Federer on Center Court today, it could go down in history as one of the biggest upsets of all.
Roger Federer struggled in the first round, taking the match, but needed to go to tie breakers in the first two sets. He may not be as tired as Willis is, but something seemed a bit off in the first round and Willis should be looking to take advantage of that.
There is a ton of action on all courts of Wimbledon today, pending the weather stays alright, (which doesn’t look good right now), but punters can catch Novak Djokovic, Milos Raonic, and many more on the grass courts throughout the day.
If Willis were to beat the odds, he would need to overcome a huge 26.00 to win. A huge payday from bet365 Sports for any punter that puts a bet on the Brit. Federer seems like the obvious selection at 1.01, but stranger things have happened.
