World Cup 2018 Qualifiers: France vs Holland
Published August 31, 2017 by Sol FH
A big battle on the road to the World Cup sees France and Holland going for the win tonight at 19:45 GMT.
It was a little more than one year ago when Holland and France met in a World Cup Qualifier, a match in which France was victorious keeping a clean sheet, while putting one goal in. The next time these two teams met was in March of this year, in a Friendly match in which France was again victorious, but the Netherlands did score 2-goals. France has the upper hand again tonight in their first round match against the Dutch, but Holland will need to pull out all the stops tonight or they risk not making it to a second-straight tournament (did not qualify for the 2016 Euro).
France are currently second in Group A, labeled the "Group of Death," behind Sweden, but 3-points clear of Holland. The Dutch will be bringing their top squad, but many have come out publicly to say that this National Team is the worst in history. We will see the return of Robin van Persie set for a comeback, but just how much can he do to try and overcome the incredible French side, which includes so many weapons.
Holland's Captain, Arjen Robben believes that his team mates will trust that they have what it takes to get their World Cup aspirations back on track. A big believer in his teammates abilities, Robben was quoted saying, "Of course, France have, in terms of quality, a really good team, but I don't want to talk about them. I think we must not think that we are not as good, we must be convinced of our own qualities and believe that we can beat them".
