World Cup 2018 Qualifiers: Iceland vs Ukraine
Published September 5, 2017 by Sol FH
The hot ticket tonight in the World Cup Qualifying is a tight match-up between Iceland and Ukraine live at 19:45 GMT.
Iceland are entering into a 'must-win' situation tonight against the Ukraine after a slip up last week against Finland 1-0. The Ukraine are in second place in Group I, just two-points behind Croatia, and their amazing 2-0 win against Turkey last week, in which Striker Andriy Yarmolenko scored twice in the first half was a huge boost. With the win, the Ukraine are en-route to their second World Cup berth since becoming a sovereign country.
Hordur Magnusson’s chances of making it back to the World Cup in 2018 are slipping through his fingers, and is now in a do or die situation. Iceland are still in good shape in 3rd place. They are only 3 points off of top spot, but they absolutely need a win tonight. The loss to Finland was after a 3-win streak, which is the reason that they are still in contention. One of those wins was against the Group I leaders back in June, making their loss to Finland such a shocker.
The Ukraine must still host Croatia so Iceland are not all out They still have a hosting of Croatia to get past in the final round of fixtures though, so they can’t afford any slip ups either. Iceland are home specialists and Ukraine will have a very difficult time. This will most-likely be a low scoring game, as Ukraine will probably play for a draw, but we could be surprised by Iceland if they get their offense in check.
