Young Swedes Prefer Online Gambling, Study ClaimsPublished February 27, 2016 by Elana K
A new study from Mediavision has found that the younger generation of Swedes prefer online gambling, while older Swedes prefer traditional gambling.
A study conducted by the Swedish consultancy firm Mediavision has found that the youth of Sweden prefer online gambling to the more traditional gambling that the older generation enjoys. Further differences show that young Swedes prefer electronic sports, online casinos and online poker, whereas older Swedes prefer lotteries and betting on horse racing.
Sweden has a fairly high population of gamblers, with an estimated 40% of Swedes between the ages of 18 and 74 participating in some sort of real-money gambling on a monthly basis. Because of the huge potential of the Swedish market, gaming companies located outside of Sweden have increased their advertising and have been fairly successful, more so than companies actually located within Sweden.
Current popular destinations for young Swedish gamblers include bet365 Casino, Unibet, and of course, Svea Casino, an online casino that caters specifically to the Swedish population.
Svea Casino for Swedes
Svea Casino offers games from top industry software providers, including BetSoft, NextGen, Net Entertainment, Microgaming and IGT. Games include slots, progressive slots, blackjack, baccarat, roulette and more, and can be played by download or Flash. Svea Casino also offers live-dealer games and mobile games, which can be played on smartphone devices and tablets.
Online Gambling in Europe
According to the European Commission, the online gambling market in the EU brings in approximately 10 billion EUR every year, making up 12% of the EU’s total gambling market income (which is about 85 billion EUR). Sweden is the third-largest country in the EU, and its gambling population undoubtedly contributes a nice portion to the EU's revenue. As part of the EU, Sweden must comply with the European Commission’s online gambling regulations.
