Zynga is the foremost online gambling software supplier across social network operators. However, they have had a torrid time recently, with their customer base dropping dramatically.
Gambling at social networks has not been the great success that many expected it to be, and in the last year or so, developments at the market leader have been followed with considerable interest. 2014 is a new year and maybe a new start for Zynga.
The social network based gambling site as had a tough time recently, with some highly publicized disagreements with their major partner sites. In 2012, there were some 300 million registered users of Zynga's products, but by the end of 2013 that had halved to just 150 million, while their revenue dropped by around one third. Some of its' best known products were also dropped during the year, and perhaps most importantly, they withdrew from the vital US social gambling market.
Changes for 2014
Don Mattrick has been recruited as the new Chief Executive Officer, and despite this management shake-up causing some concerns in the financial markets, Mattrick has had many years of experience with Microsoft and Electronic Arts, a company that experienced a big turnaround in its' fortunes while he was there. He has already overseen the introduction of more role-playing games at Zynga, and these tend to retain users better, and have a longer life span, than pure gambling does, so perhaps the company has a brighter future with such a seasoned manager at the table.
UK Developments
Although they left the American market, some of their international developments are making a bigger and better impression. In the big UK market, the recent launches of ZyngaPlusCasino and ZyngaPlusPoker have proved to be moderately successful, but considering the potential in this country, these social gambling sites could grow considerably during the coming year.
