Colombia

Colombia is joining the train of countries to regulate online gambling as the country's regulatory body, Coljuegos, begins issuing online gaming licenses to sports betting sites and casinos alike.

Online gambling is becoming a global phenomenon and many countries where the activity was not very popular in the past are beginning to realize the growth of online gambling and starting to regulate it. Colombia is one of those countries, as its relatively new regulatory body by the name of Coljuegos started issuing gaming licenses in June 2017.

Since then, Coljuegos has been issuing licenses to betting sites and online casinos, with more Colombian online casinos appearing on the regulated market every month. Unlike many other South American countries, Colombia is now taking an active part in what their citizens are doing online in terms of gambling and a part of that involves blocking a number of international online casinos from being available to players using a Colombian IP address.

A Growing Online Casino Market

The Colombian online casino market has truly been on the rise in the last several years, as has the economy of the country. With more and more international companies coming into the country and investing into various IT related businesses, it is only natural that the online gaming industry is growing as well.

With Coljuegos regulated online casinos, local players can be sure that they are getting treated fairly, they can play in their local currency and make deposits and cashouts using local payment methods, while the operators themselves have to pay taxes to the local government to the tune of 15% of their net revenue.
