History of the Gosloto 6/45

The Russia Gosloto was launched in 2003 in accordance with lottery regulations that were signed by Vladimir Putin.  The first Gosloto lottery draw was held on September 10^th, 2005 and the first Gosloto 6/45 draw took place in October 2008.  The equipment for the lottery draws is provided by Intralot.  Intralot is a Greek company that manufactures and supplies lottery equipment and machinery.  Sports-related programs receive 15% of the profits made from Gosloto ticket sales. 

Rules of Gosloto 6/45

The goal of the lottery is to match 6 numbers between 1 and 45.  If players match all 6 numbers then they will win the jackpot prize.  There are five different prize categories that can be won -based on the amount of numbers that were correctly chosen.  To play the Gosloto 6/45, players need to choose 6-block or 4-block forms.  Players have two options for selecting the numbers they want to play with.  They can either select their own numbers, or use the Quick Pick system where numbers are randomly selected by the computer.

The odds of winning a 5^th place prize for matching 2 numbers is 1:7.  The draws for this lottery are available online and they are also aired on television across Russia.  The minimum jackpot for the lottery is RUB10 million, which is approximately $290,000.  The odds of winning the top jackpot prize are about 1 in 8 million.  There is no jackpot cap, so the prize money can continue growing every week until somebody wins it. 

The biggest jackpot that was ever won in the Russia Gosloto 6/45 was RUB135 million.  In USD, that is approximately $3.92 million.  This jackpot was hit by two different players.  The jackpot was split between the winners and both received RUB 67.6 million.  The largest jackpot that was ever won by a single player was RUB 100 million which is about US $2.9 million.  This was won by Albert Begrakyan, back in April 2009.  The prizes in this lottery are paid out in one lump sum and taxed at 13%.
