The Southern District of New York recently moved against what they considered the ‘illegal gambling activity' of Canadian Douglas Rennick. He is charged with fraudulently operating payment processors for online gambling sites in North America. Some $34 million has already been seized by the State, leaving many people expecting their winning payments in limbo. What's it all about? Rennick was operating online payment processors that received and paid out funds for online gambling activity. According to the current US law - the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act 2006 (UIGEA) and the Federal Wire Act 1961 in particular - no banking or financial institutions in the USA are allowed to process payments or receive funds with the purposes of online gambling activity. The State claims that Rennick is guilty of bank fraud, money laundering, and gambling conspiracy. Now that the investigation of Rennick is fully underway, the players who have been waiting for their payouts from Full Tilt Poker, Pokerstars and Ultimate Bet, are between stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) rightly intervened, due to no warrants being issued in the first place, and they are now working alongside the court to direct the investigation fairly. How much? Claims that $350 million was processed through a Cyprus bank account have been leaked, but the Justice Department is seeking the forfeiture of $565 million. If Rennick is convicted he faces punitive measures of 30 years imprisonment and a fine of $2 million. A counter-suit has been filed by Account Services Corporation, regarding the ‘illegal' seizure of the $34 million, and is set to be heard on August 21, but no date has been released for the Douglas Rennick case.

A 1995 Gambling Act - rather recent, especially when taking into consideration such an outdated Wire Act (1961) that is somehow still relevant in the USA... - was recently updated by Estonia and will make online casinos legal in the country as of January 1st, 2010. In just over four months, online casino operators will be able to possess a valid Gambling Activity License in Estonia and receive remote gambling operation permits. The new Estonia Gambling Act also recognizes licensed EU online gaming operators and welcomes them to the country, pending paperwork, licenses and continued supervision. Online gambling is already available to casino players in Estonia. No license can be obtained from the Estonian government at this time, and yet the operators, as long as they are legit and licensed European companies, operate under free trade and free movement of services, European-wide regulations. These operators will also be legal once the new Gambling Act takes effect. They should, however, set a reminder for January 1, 2010, by when they need to acquire an Estonian license.
The game of dominoes is said to derive from the Middle and Far East. There is evidence of it in second century China and Egypt. A set was even discovered in Tutankhamen's tomb. Its popularity has endured throughout the ages and it is enjoying further resurgence today with its transfer onto the web. Enticing a new generation of players, this classic game enthralls young and old alike. Online skills games are growing in popularity over the web and have the added benefit of being legal in the US as they do not come under the ‘gambling' umbrella. They do, however, have the allure of big money prizes, and are already extremely popular in the UK. Skill Games Online Skill games are legal because they are not overly reliant on chance. You can develop the mental and physical/co-ordination skills necessary to improve your game and increase your likelihood of winning. Some games use mathematical skills, others memory or speedy reactions. Dominoes Stars is of the world's largest online dominoes site. As well as offering all variants of the game and a range of bonuses and prizes, it also hosts the competitive online world championships. Even William Hill offers skill games these days, as do others, with opportunities galore for amateurs and experts alike, allowing you to come in at your level and develop your skills at your pace.
The very same morning that would have South Korean golfer Y.E. Yang overcome a 2 stroke deficit behind odds makers favorite Tiger Woods, such posts were all over the internet: "You can't blame Tiger Woods for being so brilliant, but he has taken some of the excitement out of major championship golf." (The Canberra Times) "Tiger is a dead cert," said a Paddy Power spokesman. Oddsmakers too got carried away, turning Woods' odds from 3/2 entering the PGA Championship to 5/1 entering the final round. Then it happened. Yang shot a 2-under par 70. Woods shot a 3-over par 75. Yang Won. Woods is second. Yang entered the tournament with odds that would have paid bettors 125 times their bet had he won. Those odds have improved and still would have paid you 20 times your bet. Kudos to Yang and all the smart bettors out there. Never get carried away, and remember - the only sure thing about sport and sports betting is the Bonus!
A highly anticipated new poker reality television show featuring four professionals hit US screens on Sunday. "2 months, $2 million" features online poker pros Dani "Ansky" Stern, Emil "Whitelime" Patel, Brian "Flawless Victory" Roberts and Jay "Krantz" Rosenkrantz, aiming to collectively earn $2 million over, you guessed it, a period of two months. The four team members play online poker out of a huge mansion, with two rooms designed to suit their needs: the "War Room," a home theater equipped with four 50 inch plasma monitors; and the Tilt Room, with equipment like baseball hats and hockey sticks to let the four competitors forget about poker. Rosenkrantz told Poker News Daily that the four tailored their strategy to the fact that they were working on a specific schedule. "Our general strategy was to play as big as possible as often as possible," Poker News Daily quoted him as saying. "You're also adhering to G4's production schedule, so you can't always be around for every game." The show airs on the G4 network at 9pm Eastern Time; over 10 half-hour episodes. Launched seven years ago, G4 TV is an American cable channel geared toward young male viewers. This is the network's first foray into the world of poker reality television.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid lead the odds for the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League, with just one last playoff round to be finished before the 32-team group stage gets underway. Champions League Odds The two teams are both offering 5.50 at William Hill Sports, although defending champs Barcelona have the edge in the Ladbrokes odds at 5.50, compared to Real Madrid's 6.00, setting up the prospect of a "Super Classico" matchup between the two teams in the final, which will be played in May at Real's Santiago Bernabeu stadium. In a tournament dominated in recent years by Spanish and English sides, it is no surprise that four of the next five contenders hail from the English Premier League. Manchester United (6.00 at Ladbrokes, 7.50 at William Hill), Chelsea (8.00 at Ladbrokes, 6.00 at William Hill), Liverpool (9.00 at Ladbrokes, 10.00 at William Hill) and Arsenal (15.00 at Ladbrokes, 13.00 at William Hill) are interrupted only by Italian champion Inter Milan (13.00 at Ladbrokes, 11.00 at William Hill). Europa League Odds The story is slightly different in the second-tier Europa League (formerly known as the UEFA Cup), which is traditionally won by a wider variety of clubs. Roma is a 13.00 Ladbrokes favorite to win the tournament under its new format, which includes a group stage with 12 groups of four teams, playing each other at home and away. German side Hamburg and Spanish team Villareal (both 15.00 at Ladbrokes) are Roma's main competition, while Everton (17.00) and Aston Villa (21.00) are England's best hopes. Delaware might not get sports betting, after the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia granted a request from the four major American sports leagues to hold a hearing on sports betting in the tiny US state, news agencies have reported. The National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association and National Hockey League, as well as the college sports governing body the NCAA, requested a hearing to place an injunction on the upcoming legalization of sports betting in Delaware, which was set to begin on September 1. The hearing will be held before a three-judge panel eight days earlier on August 24. The judge had initially denied the injunction request and instead set a trial date for December 7, which would have allowed betting at the beginning of the NFL, NBA and NHL seasons. A spokesman for Delaware Governor Jack Markell, who played a major role in legalizing sports betting in his state, said the governor was looking "forward to our day in court." The governor introduced the plan as a way of cutting the Diamond State's massive $850 million budget deficit.
