The commander of Governor Bob Riley's Task Force on Illegal Gambling, David Barber, has announced his intention to resign following his confession that he hit a jackpot in a Mississippi casino. He may have won the jackpot, but is criticized for hypocrisy and poor judgment, not to mention being mocked for the irony this publicity has earned him. Despite the fact that he won the $2,300 prize playing in a legal venue on a legal game, Barber has nevertheless decided to step down from the post. In a letter addressed to Riley he states that "I am convinced that the forces that operate illegal casinos in Alabama will focus on my actions as part of their continuing effort to smear you and your Task Force." Riley has accepted Barber's resignation. The purpose of the highly controversial task force is to investigate and combat gambling in Alabama.
se SEGA Games and Playtech have signed a new deal, opening the way for the development of an online casino and online poker room by SEGA. Rumors of a SEGA online casino have first aired in September. The development is exciting news for industry observers: SEGA is a stalwart in the video game industry - having created such 1990s classics as Sonic the Hedgehog, Evander Holyfield Boxing and House of the Dead - but the company has never before had a shot at online gambling. The SEGA casino will feature the whole range of expected games, including slot machines, blackjack, roulette and craps, but with a SEGA twist. However, SEGA's official mascot Sonic is yet to feature on the site, and it is unclear whether the trusted hedgehog will in the future. The poker room will include live games and head to head contests with thousands of players, again all being presented under the unique SEGA brand. The websites are already up and running and can be found at SEGACasino.com and SEGAPoker.com.
As a woman, I know first-hand about advertising. I'm just as susceptible as the next female to go for certain colors and prizes aimed at my interests, but luring me to an online casino is where I draw the line. However, for many women out there, they are not like me and that is exactly what these online casino advertisers are counting on. Reports have shown that women are very comfortable with the idea of betting online. With almost 2,000 online casinos to choose from, it is not unlike walking into a large mall and finding that most, if not all, of the stores cater directly to you and want you as their customer. Compared to male players, women hold the title in numbers for online bingo and slots. It's all in the attitude - while men enjoy the skill and competition in trying to beat the odds, women enjoy online gambling for the social aspect and relaxing environment. Many casinos recognize this and are now tapping into targeted ad campaigns towards women and they seem to be working. By offering prizes that cater towards female customers, having female 'friendly' colors, hunky pictures and gambling horoscopes, women are finding a new supportive haven within the rooms of many online casinos. While this writer personally doesn't gamble, I don't blame the many women who do try their odds - after all, Lady Luck is a woman. That doesn't seem to be a coincidence to you, does it?
European legislation is blocking consumer choice viral videos created by Right2bet. The videos are spoofs portraying the EU authorities as a ‘Renegade Referee' imposing random rules on innocent members of the public. The likeness to the arcane laws currently in place preventing the public from being able to gamble freely is the central issue. Right2bet has taken the onus upon itself to take the matter to the people. The rogue ref shouting the odds With bizarre gambling laws in the EU it's a triumph of a series of videos, but the truth is far more sobering. EU states run monopolies on gambling. What Right2bet is calling for is an end to such practice and a similar system as is currently in place in the United Kingdom. The dilemma that would-be viewers are experiencing is that in countries such as France, Germany, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands these videos are grouped under the online gambling category. As such, viewers are not able to see them. The goal is to get 1,000,000 signatures from folks who are all for freedom of choice. But it's only a handful of countries that allow these videos to be legally screened, such as the UK. The video displays the sheer inanity of trying to limit people's right to choose. In today's day and age it is not only bizarre that individual freedom should be so curtailed, but it's the nature of the enforcer too which is equally puzzling. There appears to be no rhyme or reason why EU legislation should impose such draconian measures on the continental populace. If it's free trade that the EU wants, then Right2bet is all for it - in every way.
