British Petroleum's Deepwater Horizon spill is one of the worse environmental disasters in history. Just as early reports were misleading, undermining the crisis, so we are told now, in its second month, that it is not over yet. Not at all. Latest talk and live video links are directed at the probable species extinction in the Gulf of Mexico. And there is at least one sportsbook that did not let this past with addressing t in pure gambling fashion. PaddyPower has placed odds on what species would be first to become extinct. Morbid, true, but honest to the Chinese symbol for Crisis - one brush stroke for danger, and one for opportunity. While the oil spill means absolute tragedy to the Kemp's ridley turtle, an endangered species that migrates to the Gulf this time of year, also ahead with 5-9 odds to go first, this betting opportunity is for you to capitalize on. Other, less likely species to go are the gulf sturgeon, smalltooth sawfish and elkhorn coral. Provocation? Paddy Power have said in a statement, that this will draw attention to the environmental catastrophe. This also raises questions about betting on non-sports, newsworthy events, to which they said: "People should be allowed to back up their opinion with some cash."
So far we have rumors and speculation, but the imminent implementation of UIGEA regulations on June 1 may push Microgaming, and casino such as All Slots that run on Microgaming software, out. For the past few years, while online casino operators were trying to make sense and work around the US online casino gambling laws, Microgaming stopped accepting new players from the US, but did support existing ones. New casinos, replacing the closed-off casinos, will run on a new software platform. This has already taken effect in some cases. Such migration does not necessarily require opening a new account. No public announcements has been made yet. Like Playtech, Microgaming is shying from the iffy US market. What does this leave for American gamblers? Real Time Gaming is one of the industry's leading gaming software providers. It is also still relevant to US traffic, accepting players from the United States. Likewise Top Game, if somewhat smaller in scale. All RTG games are listed on the RTG Games page, where you can click through to find a video preview of each game, as well as a list of the Top 10 RTG Casino where you can play the game. A similar list is available for Top Game Casinos.
The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of meeting in the NBA finals for an historic 12th time, and that is big news for bookmakers and bettors alike. The Celtics have won nine of the previous 11 finals series between the two teams, including the most recent in 2008, but the Lakers remain favorites for the NBA title because of their far stronger regular season record this year. Boston, who lead Orlando 3-1 in the Eastern Conference finals series, have made one of the greatest runs of all times to the championship decider, having defeated Miami and then Cleveland after finishing fourth in the conference in the regular season. Los Angeles, on the other hand, are in the box seat to close out Phoenix in their series after finishing with the best record in the West, and nothing less than a 16th championship (one less than Boston have won) would be acceptable to their fans. The Lakers are 4/6 at William Hill for the championship, ahead of Boston, 6/4. Phoenix is 14/1 and Orlando 16/1, given that both still maintain a flicker of hope of making it to the title matchup.
The 2010 French Open is underway and the usual suspects are expected to win it, with Rafael Nadal and Justine Henin leading the sports betting in the men's and women's singles respectively. Spaniard Nadal, world number two and winner of four French titles in a row from 2005 to 2008, is a 4/11 Titan Bet favorite reclaim the title from arch-rival and world number one Roger Federer, who is 11/4 second favorite. The next contenders are almost irrelevant, they're that far off the pace, although obviously some punters will be tempted by the long odds: third favorite is Serb Novak Djokovic, at a staggering 18/1, followed by Andy Murray, 20/1, David Ferrer, 25/1, and Fernando Verdasco and Robin Soderling, 33/1 each. In the women's singles there are four main contenders, led by current world number 23 Justine Henin, who is 4/1 at William Hill. The Belgian may be ranked outside the top 20, but she is a four-time champion at Roland Garros and made the Australian Open final earlier in the year after returning from more than a year in retirement. Behind her in the odds are the Williams sisters, both 5/1, and Jelena Jankovic, 6/1. This year’s French Open is the 109th installment of the famous event, and concludes on Sunday June 6 with the men’s final.
The 2010 installment of the world's biggest poker tournament - the World Series of Poker - kicks off this Friday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. And believe it or not, this year's tourney is expected to be even bigger than last year's, when some 61,000 competitors from 115 countries played. To make room for the expected huge attendance, tournament officials have increased the number of tables to 377 each day, something that might have been hard to imagine when the first WSOP was held way back in 1970. Fifty seven winners' bracelets are on offer this year, with the flagship $10,000 buy-in championship event scheduled to be held from July 5-17, and the final nine returning in November to play off for the title of world's best poker players. The reigning champion of the Main Event is American Joe Cada, who used a pair of nines to defeat compatriot Darvin Moon in 2009. The WSOP action gets started on Friday with the $500 Casino Employees no-limit hold'em event. Meanwhile, officials of the WSOP have talked down reported plans to move the tournament to another venue in the event that Harrah's Entertainment goes through with a rumored sale of the Rio.
The image of lottery winners wearing masks, or what accounts for an even worse fashion crime –paper bags over their heads – are not unfamiliar. Not even in Italy, where lottery winners often choose to remain anonymous. Still, it is reported, the Italian Camorra organized crime clan found out the identities of some winners and extorted them for their prize money – for a total of €33 million. The victims were about 30 winners of the popular Superenalotto numbers game from the past two and a half years. Lotteries Online Superenalotto and other lottery tickets can be purchased in a much safer way – online of course. Visit the new Lottery service on Online Casino Reports and find a long list of lotteries from around the world – Italy included, but also Australia's Powerball Lotto, Canada's BC 49, Mega Millions in the USA and more – and a list of lottery portals where you can buy tickets.
