Tour de France Odds Contador over Armstrong

Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is back at the Tour de France for another shot at the title, but he trails three other cyclists in the odds betting for the event, which runs from July 3 to 25. American Armstrong is paying 11/1 at William Hill to win the Tour again, behind Spaniard and reigning champion Alberto Contador, 1/2, Luxembourg's Andy Schleck, 5/1, and Australian rider Cadel Evans, 9/1. Of course, in such a grueling competition, there is also interest in who will win the various categories, including the sprint and mountain stages, and the team and individual classifications. In the 100th year of the inclusion of the Pyrenees in the Tour de France, the six mountain stages will win particular focus from fans and punters alike. Spaniard Egoi Martinez heads the field for the King of the Mountains, 7/1 at William Hill, ahead of Estonian Rein Taaramäe and Dutchman Robert Gesink. The competitors will have to ride for a total of 20 individual days over the 23-day Tour, with the longest day being the 227 km flat stage from Montargis to Gueugnon in eastern France. The Tour finishes on July 25 with the tradition ending at the Champs Elysees in Paris. Tour de What? Betway Poker are running their own 22 day event, called the Tour of Poker. With great events and prizes to match each stage of the French Tour, it is well worth a visit.

Are Video and Online Games Art?

What do the Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Michaelangelo's statue of David and Microgaming's Lara Croft Slots have in common? They're all art. Right? Wrong? Undecided? Well the debate is in full swing and OCR went to find out more. A Rudimentary Art It's a discussion that has been going on for some time but was accelerated back in April via a videoed TED talk given by Kellee Santiago, a designer and producer of video games. Santiago advocated that video games, which is an umbrella term used to include online casino games too, are a modern day art form. "Art", she argues, "is a way of communicating ideas to an audience in a way that the audience finds engaging." She takes viewers on a journey through time; looking at the evolvement of art from primitive cave paintings through to modern day masterpieces. She also retraces the simple, crude roots of today's sophisticated, high tech film industry. Gaming, she affirms, is simply a media in its early years: still developing, both in its creation by game producers, as well as in the expectations and appreciation of its audience. Whilst once players purely enjoyed games for their challenges and rewards, their increasing morality encourages the contemplation of social and cultural issues. This, argues Santiago, appeals to the emotions, makes them thought provoking and ultimately classes them as art. She uses several gaming clips in her presentation, highlighting how they embrace topical issues and provide message and stimulation. Interactive and Thought Provoking Games, she states are becoming more refined and growing up with their audience - they are becoming more serious, have deeper emotional content and not only tell a story that can be interacted with but encourage learning and emotional growth. Games as a media, she argues, should not be confined to the superficial; we should recognize the power of gaming and allow it to naturally develop into its own art form in the 21st century. Not Worthy of the Label 'Art' The arguments put forward by Santiago may well be persuasive but many disagree. Famous film critic and blogger, Roger Ebert, begs to differ with Santiago. He says, "One obvious difference between art and games is that you can win a game. It has rules, points, objectives, and an outcome." The three clips she streamed also failed to leave a mark on him. He remarks that they, "do not raise my hopes for a video game that will deserve my attention long enough to play it. No one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great painters, filmmakers, novelists and poets." He also ponders, "Why are gamers so intensely concerned, anyway, that games be defined as art?" Online Debate The online debate has received much attention and many have posted up their own views, both for and against. Online games, as well as video games, are increasingly popular. Their graphics are continually improving and the emphasis is no longer just on storylines and tasks but on enhanced sound effects, amazing graphics, interactive features and moral, as well as physical dilemmas. Software developers such as Playtech and Microgaming are constantly finding new ways to engage their audience. All said and done, if Tracey Emin's unmade bed was able to merit a Turner Prize nomination, then surely there's hope yet for gaming. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why can't art be too?

Who's the Biggest World Cup Loser?

It can be tempting to get caught up in the thrill of wagering on the World Cup, particularly with the advent of live betting and a fantastic choice of options. One British gambler, having already suffered the heartache of seeing Germany thrash a lackluster England, went on to back Germany in the biggest World Cup bet of all time. All to Play For The brazen Brit placed a world record £417,000 wager with William Hill's telephone betting service on Germany to beat Spain in the semi final. He could have walked off with a massive £800,000 if the Germans had got through. William Hill were cheering on the Spanish as Germany had received several big bets, many of them placed before the tournament started, when the odds were higher and the young German team had yet to prove their world class calibre. Watching the game was surely a tense affair for this particular bettor, with so much money riding on the game and with both sides having their chances within the match. Ultimately, it was a single goal by Germany that ended up denying this brave bettor a big win and crowned him as the biggest World Cup loser. World Cup Betting Fever Another Englishman who caught World Cup betting fever was Richard Enticott, who bet £100 at 10,000/1 odds that his baby, due during the World Cup, would grow up to score a goal for England during the 2030 World Cup. The FIFA 2010 World Cup has had its fair share of ups and downs but one constant delight has been the creativity and extra excitement injected by online sportsbooks such as William Hill and Titan Bet.

YouTube to Allow Online Gambling Ads

YouTube, the Internet's largest online video website, could be about to open the door to gambling advertisements after amending its terms and conditions. The site, which was created in February 2005, was later bought by Google and today is the third-most popular website in the world after Google and Facebook, has for two years been relaxing its policy on online gambling. In October 2008, the ban on online gambling that was written into its AdWords Policy was removed, paving the way for this latest move to allow advertisements from industry operators. Under the new terms and conditions, licensed online gambling operators that will be permitted to advertise on the site include, but are not limited to: "Online casinos, sports books, poker, and sites that provide tips, odds, and handicapping." However, the online gambling ads will only be permissible for licensed entities located in Britain, Italy, France or Spain, and only from "licensed entities that have been previously approved through the appropriate AdWords application process, provided that those ads are not targeted outside the permitted locations." In addition to the YouTube site pages, licensed companies will be allowed to run their advertising campaigns on their own channels. YouTube users will have to verify that they are over the age of 18 before being permitted to view the ads. Casino Revenue Drops During World Cup

The 2010 FIFA World Cup has made one unexpected impact on the gambling world, with the month-long tournament causing a drop in revenue at both land-based and online casinos. In Macau, the Asian gambling paradise, June 2010 revenue was recorded at $1.7 billion. And while that was a 65 percent increase from the same month in 2009 - when the industry was still suffering from the global financial crisis - it was significantly down on the figures from May 2010. Industry insiders blame the World Cup for the temporary slump, citing the billions being bet on the outcome of matches at the tournament as luring money away from other gambling options. "We believe July will see a similar temporary softness in VIP gaming as the World Cup approaches its final stages," Deutsche Bank AG analyst Karen Tang was quoted as saying by news agency AFP, before adding that figures were expected to rise again during the peak summer tourism period of march. Meanwhile, Internet poker rooms have also suffered a drop in revenues during the World Cup, with PartyPoker reportedly suffering a decrease of almost 10 percent in the last month. The World Cup began on June 11 and ends with the final on July 11, to be played between the Netherlands and Spain.

WSOP Main Event Begins in Vegas

Almost six weeks since the beginning of the 2010 World Series of Poker and following the awarding of 56 bracelets, the event's flagship Main Event finally kicked off in Las Vegas on July 5. Each of the approximately 7,000 competitors at the Main Event received 30,000 in tournament chips for the $10,000 buy-in event. The competition was fierce in the first couple of days, with 2004 champion Greg Raymer and 2006 champion Jamie Gold already eliminated. Competing celebrities included comedians Ray Romano and David Alan Grier, and Playboy's 2007 Playmate of the Year Sara Jean Underwood. The WSOP changed its registration guidelines for this year's tournament following last year's problems in which players were turned away on the final day of registration because of lack of space. This year, players were able to pre-register for one of four starting days. Only 1,125 entrants participated on day one on Monday, partly because of the preference of many to not begin their campaign on the very first day of the poker tournament. The Main Event runs until July 17, when the final nine players will be decided. Those nine will then have to wait until November 6.

All Slots Casino: Account Management Made Easy

Confused about online casino bonus credits? You're not alone. Wagering requirements (also called playthroughs) are a mystery to many new casino clients. Even veteran gamblers are sometimes shocked after withdrawing bonuses only to find a zero bonus balance because they didn't meet the playthrough requirements! With All Slots Casino, these sorts of gambling dilemmas are a thing of the past. ClearPlay Bonus System Jackpot Factory (which owns All Slots) has introduced an innovative account management system that calculates and displays: your bonus balance (credits you've won from the casino - these are subject to wagering requirements before you can withdraw them in cash, although you can always use them to play) your cash balance (these are your cash deposits - you can do whatever you want with them) your overall balance (all of this is available anytime for playing at All Slots) Take the ClearPlay tutorial at All Slots' website. It's easily understood and presented in colorful, sharp graphics just like All Slots' Microgaming casino games. The tutorial is recommended as an educational tool for learning about playthrough requirements, even if you never gamble at All Slots. All Games Included The ClearPlay system tracks your wins and losses on every game (and there are more than 400) in the casino, and constantly updates your account. With ClearPlay, a straightforward standard playthrough of x30 is applied to each bonus. If you also happen to be a VIP Lounge member of the casino, playthrough requirements drop to a mere x15.
