The Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) in Malta has announced it has suspended the Class 2 gaming license held by Stryyke, an online sportsbook based in the territory. At the same time, the director of the online gambling company, Rajiv Giri, 40, was charged with defrauding people of €50,000. Giri has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Both events have taken place while online gambling forums have heated up with accusations of the sportsbook for not paying out winnings, accusations that have not be addressed by sportsbook operators and have spilled over to stain the Malta licensing authority's reputation. LGA Announcement The Class 2 license suspension of Stryyke Malta Limited does not state any causes. It dryly states: "The Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) hereby notifies that the licenses held by the company Stryyke Malta Limited have been suspended." It does go on to mention that the company's online Casino operations were not being operated under a Maltese license. Styyke's Defense Stryyke's director has claimed the outstanding amount of unpaid winnings is €6,000, which is held back for reasons of missing proper methods of identification by the winners. High-profile US Congressman Barney Frank appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week, and used the opportunity to talk about one of his most passionate subjects - the legalization of online gambling. The Supreme Court in the US state of Washington has ruled a peer-to-peer betting service to be illegal, settling a dispute over the website that began three years earlier. The website is different from regular betting sites in that it charges a fee for customers to make bets but does not require losers to pay off their bets. Annual wagers on mobile gambling are predicted to exceed $48 billion by the year 2015, according to a new report published last week by Juniper Research.
