The European Court of Justice ruled last Friday against Austrian restrictions on foreign gambling companies, increasing speculation that it will next target American gambling laws. In two separate cases, Europe's highest court ruled in favor of gaming companies Bwin Entertainment, Betfair and Ladbrokes, following on from a ruling earlier the same week in which the German gaming monopoly was also found to be unlawful. The United States could be next for court action, given that it has already been given warnings by the European Commission for not complying with trade agreement with European Union members. Under current US gambling laws, offshore companies are banned from operating there. So what's the big deal when it comes to the United States? Well for starters, with the biggest economy in the world, a population equal to Europe's five biggest countries, and of course a thirst for gambling, the US represents the ultimate market for Europe's many online gambling companies. In addition, the current state of online gambling stateside, where Internet gambling has been effectively banned since the transfer of funds to online gaming sites was made illegal, is seen as regressive in Europe, where more countries are opening their doors to competition in the industry. With pro-gambling measures gaining ground in Washington, it is only a matter of time until things change, whether from within or from external pressure from Europe.
The United States has its first legal online poker network following the signing of an agreement between Atlantis Internet Group and Cake Gaming. The agreement, which was signed on September 7, means online poker will now be offered legally in more than 30 US states through Tribal Gaming Network. It was made possible by a special exemption in the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which effectively banned online gambling in the US but allowed for "certain exceptions to Indian casinos, to interracial online gambling activities and to the states that allow online gambling activities under an intra-constitutional framework law." Atlantic Group CEO Donald Bailey hailed the new agreement, calling it a solution to tribes and states facing economic problems at a national level. Meanwhile, the battle to legalize online gaming in the US continues. In California, an updated version of the intrastate e-gaming bill is expected to come up for a vote in the state legislature before the end of 2010. And federally, Congressman Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, better known as HR 2267, is awaiting its turn to be debated in Congress after passing through the House Financial Services Committee in August.
Euro Palace online casino gives you the option of either downloading its casino software or just playing the games in flash. So which of the two options are more suitable for you? Full Offering While a little more complex, downloading the software is advantageous because it gives you full access to all of Euro Palace's more than 300 casino games, including slots, video poker and blackjack. And it means you can utilize the full range of promotions and bonuses, including 1500 in free bets and the 100% match deposit bonus of up to 200 in dollars, euros and pounds, received upon making a first deposit. And the best news is that downloading takes less than 60 seconds with a regular Internet connection, which is a lot quicker than you would expect. Flash Alternative However, if playing in the non-downloadable flash format is your preference, then it's also not a bad option, if you're willing to put up with not having access to every game. Still, around 150 games are available in flash, which is about half of what is available if you install the software. In addition, the promotions are still on offer regardless of which format you use, which means you can still receive your 100% match deposit bonus, even if you don't download Euro Palace's software. Third Option Or you can play both! Download the casino at home to play when you wish, and use the same account to play from other computers on a flash, no-download version.
This week marks the halfway point in the long four-month wait between the first stage WSOP Main Event and the final table, which pits the nine remaining players against each other. Tournament organizers decided to capitalize on the growing popularity of poker, online poker specifically, and the event itself by first delaying the final table in 2008, allowing for the televised event to be promoted as fully as possible. The new format, known to fans as the November Nine, returns this year for the third time, with the finalists to compete against one another at the Rio All Suite Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning November 6. Of the more than 7,000 players from 92 different nations that competed in the Main Event, six American and only three others - two Canadians and an Italian - remain in the running for the $9.8 million first prize. Twenty-two year-old Canadian Jonathan Duhamel leads all challengers heading into the final stage, claiming the chip lead with around 66 million of the 210 million chips in his possession. Michael Mizrachi, starting in seventh place, is the biggest name at the final table, after creating history during the 2010 World Series of Poker as one of four brothers to win prize money. The other players remaining are John Dolan, Joseph Cheong, John Racener, Soi Nguyen and Jason Senti of the US, Matthew Jarvis of Canada, and Filippo Candio of Italy. ESPN will televise the November Nine.
Women are increasingly working behind the scenes in the gambling and online casino industry and are changing things from within. Their intuitive understanding of the female market is leading to a greater number of online casinos, games and marketing campaigns that target this untraditional market. And it's working... whilst the industry started out stereotyping women as just being interested in online bingo (which continues to attract the girls in their masses) they are gradually realizing the benefit of offering female focused graphics, games and promos. A Woman's Place Countries such as the UK now regularly have online bingo halls advertizing during the advertizing breaks of soap operas, which have a high female audience. A recent UK Nielsen Media Research poll identified that half the online gambling population is female, a figure that is making operators sit up and take notice of their player base. Online casinos, poker halls and bingo rooms provide women with the flexibility they need to take part. Often juggling many roles, they can access online gambling at a time and place to suit them. They find it less intimidating, easier to learn the ropes and enjoy the online friendships they form. Prize packages are broadening to become more gender friendly, and game themes are embracing a broader range of films and topics that are designed to pull in the ladies. Celebrating Women in Gambling Women in the industry have a special role to play in its development and the Women in Gambling Networking Event on 24 September in London is a specially designed conference to celebrate the role of women in the online gaming industry. Aside from networking opportunities and presentations there are also Women in Gaming Awards which include Leader of the Year, Star of the Future and Industry Pride of the Year.

Bwin Affiliates has announced it will launch bewinners.com, its new affiliate program, on October 1, 2010. Currently, the new site features a few slogans and a countdown to the due launch date. It promises to have a lot more: faster payments, a rewarding level program, high quality marketing tools, and other tools to promote bwin's casino, poker, sportsbook and other brands. However, an announced change to their Terms and Conditions raises concern around the industry. The suspect T&C's include: Dropping Revenue Share to 5% three years after the date a customer has become a Paying Active and ending with the termination of the Contractual Relationship. Tightening the definition of a Paying Actives as a customer of bwin who has made real money transfers to his/her player´s accounts and has performed at least one real-money activity within 90 days after registration. Terminating a Partner's account and the Contractual Relationship if during three successive months no new Paying Actives are generated by the Partner. In their defense, bwin invites affiliates to email their objections to a dedicated email address, [email protected].
SEGA Games has shut down its poker and casino sites, less than one year after they were both launched. The sites, SEGApoker and SEGAcasino, were launched in late 2009 after SEGA Games, a subsidiary of the leading Japanese software company SEGA Corporation, received a full license from the Gambling Control Commission of Alderney, in the British Channel Islands. Both sites were shut down unexpectedly last week with a message displayed telling customers that they could no longer accept registrations or deposits. Customers can still withdraw funds, according to SEGA. Neither SEGA Games nor Playtech, the software company that powered the poker and casino sites, have given reasons for the sudden closures. The SEGA casino site offered a unique portfolio of 125 games, including the regular Playtech offering from slots and blackjack, along with specific SEGA themed games such as Virtua Fighter and the House of the Dead, Phantasy Star and Nights. Of course, the SEGA brand goes way back, with the company rising to prominence in the 1980s and 1990 following the release of the SEGA Master System and later SEGA Mega Drive and the release of such classics as Sonic the Hedgehog. Given its successful past, it will be interesting to see if the brand makes another foray into the online gambling industry in the near future.
Chelsea is now 14/1 at William Hill to go through the entire English Premier League season undefeated, following five consecutive victories to begin its campaign. The Blues are already sitting four points ahead of main rivals Manchester United and Arsenal and have scored 21 goals and conceded just one, giving good reason for its tight 8/11 odds to win the league for a second straight season. Should Chelsea go unbeaten it will become only the second team to do so since the inception of the Premier League in 1992. Previously Arsenal went unbeaten in 2003/04. However, in a strange twist, Manchester United is considered more likely to remain unbeaten for longer than Chelsea. Man U is 5/4, ahead of Chelsea, 6/4, namely because Chelsea must travel to Manchester City on Saturday. Arsenal is 3/1 to stay unbeaten longer than its rivals, while the only other team that has still not lost to this stage - Fulham - is 14/1. Chelsea is 6/4 to stay top for the entire duration of the season, something it can still achieve even if in the unlikely event it drops all three points at Manchester City. Down the other end of the table, Blackpool is a 6/4 favorite to finish bottom, ahead of Wigan, 5/2, and current bottom team West Ham, 3/1.
