Online Gambling Continues Growth

The past decade has brought large growth to the online gaming world, to such an extent that playing poker on the internet is now more popular than land-based poker games held at casinos. A perfect example of this growth can be seen in the UK over the last year. The most recent Neilson study there shows an addition of 3.2 million players. This is a 40% increase, even higher than the increase of users to Facebook and its rival social networks. The largest increase has been among high earning, well educated, middle-aged British men. Still, women do make a large percentage of the UK market at 46%. Originally, the over-65s and those of lower household incomes were the heavy users of gambling sites, but due do the recession these demographics have changed. And who were the fastest- growing online gambling companies in the UK? At the top of the list is lottery operator Camelot. PartyGaming and PartyCasino were also pretty high up there on the list. Great news - just as long as gaming time doesn't take away from tea time!

Poker Stars Deals 50 Billionth Hand

PokerStars finally recorded its 50 billionth hand last Wednesday, ending a long and tense buildup in which the world's largest online poker room dished out plenty of prizes. The Winner The winner of the hand, a previously unknown German named tbvle, beat five other opponents to win the pot of $26 plus an extra $50,000 for doing so on the milestone hand. Action was frozen on the table as the 50 billionth hand was about to be dealt, allowing for the approximately 220,000 players online on 33,000 other tables at the time to watch the proceedings. They watched as all six players at the Ornamenta table held on through the preflop, with tbvle eventually winning with pocket queens. However, it wasn't all bad news for the other players at the table, who all earned around $3,000 from VIP Player Points and won entry to the $5,200 World Championship of Online Poker main event. Personal Records According to news reports tbvle has played around 290,000 hands over the last 18 months, at a rate of hundreds every day, so he had certainly received enough practice for the big event. Some $952,239 was given out to PokerStars players during the 50 Billion Promotion, with cash prizes given out to players in 300 separate hands, beginning with number 49.7 billion and continuing through every million hands afterward.

Biggest Ever Jackpot at William Hill Vegas

The 43-year-old from London, known only as E.O., hit the jackpot after playing £4 spins on the Leprechaun's Luck slot. "I have won some minor jackpots at William Hill Vegas, but nothing comparable with this one," she said of the moment that changed her life forever. Bingo Prizes Meanwhile, another long-standing William Hill jackpot was finally claimed last week on its bingo site, when a player by the name of Kerryfeellucky won more than £133,000 on a 90-ball bingo game. The jackpot on the Escalator Bingo game has now been reset to £5,000 and 29 balls across all Virtue Fusion sites. More Where That Came From The combined jackpot on all William Hill Vegas slots still stands at hundreds of thousands of pounds, despite the big win on Leprechaun's Luck. Poker Hall of Fame- 2010 Ballot Is Out!

Poker is a game that requires much skill, a game interestingly combining probability and psychology at the hand of its players. The Poker Hall of Fame acknowledges the crème de la crème of this game. Only two of the top ten finalists will be enshrined as part of the class of 2010ers. On Sunday November 7 of this year we will find out who these players are at the Poker Hall of Fame induction ceremony that will take place from Las Vegas. Hall of Fame Status What are the criteria to be a Poker Hall of Fame finalist you might ask? Well, it's not so simple - here are just a few: Someone who has played poker against acknowledged top competition; someone who has played for high stakes; and one who has played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers. Well, not surprisingly, seven of the ten names were included on last year's ballot. These are Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Phil Ivey, Tom McEvoy, Daniel Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, and Erik Seidel. The new additions include Chris Ferguson, Jennifer Harman, and Linda Johnson. Many are predicting that the two lasting votes will go to Erik Seidel and Linda Johnson. Let's have a bit of a look at these two players. Erik Seidel Erik Seidel has a very creative and enigmatic playing style. He is a classy guy, who has been playing in poker tournaments for 23 years. He is known to be very quiet at the table and has won about eight WSOP bracelets in five different disciplines of poker won in 15 years. He also consistently puts up major tournament results every year, which cannot be said for many of his peers. His game is still super sharp and he continues to earn at least six figures almost every single year that he has played professionally. Linda Johnson Johnson, on the other hand, is known less for her achievements as a player (although her tournament earnings and WSOP bracelet are really quite impressive) but more for being an industry leader and great advocate for the game. She tirelessly gives of herself to promote the game and show it in a positive light. Her goal is to mainstream the game, and she is doing all the right moves to achieve that goal. She has gathered investors to buy Cardplayer, published a poker magazine for eight years, came up with the idea of the World Poker Tour and is also one of the founders of the Tournament Directors Association. This is a nonprofit organization that runs and promotes charity tournaments nationwide. What stands out even more than her list of achievements is her efforts to bring more women into the game and speak about gender issues involving poker. With great players such as this, there is no doubt the Poker Hall of Fame is a special honor to achieve. Who knows, start playing well enough, and you just might make it one day too!
