Mobile Betting to Jump Five-Fold in Five Years

Global expenditure on mobile betting will increase five-fold in the next five years as social gambling activity surges and American states increasingly regulate casino and lottery services, a study by Juniper Research has concluded. $100 Billion by 2017 Mobile gambling expenditure is forecast to hit a staggering $100 billion by the year 2017, five times more than the approximately $20 billion in mobile wagers recorded last year, the Juniper report said. The report pointed out that around 20% of wagers placed with UK online betting operators are already being placed via mobile phones or tablets. But it also noted that sports betting's dominance of the mobile gambling field will be replaced by mobile casino gambling in the next five years. Social gaming companies like Zynga are increasingly moving from free-play casino games into real cash gambling, while mobile casinos such as Probability are gradually integrating with Facebook, report author Dr Windsor Holden said. He added that consumers will be able to use social networks to register for casino games, significantly increasing the reach of these services. Where to find mobile gambling There has been a proliferation of mobile casino, mobile betting and other smartphone-based gaming operators in recent years. As can be seen from the Online Casino Reports mobile directory, some of the best in the business are All Slots Mobile, Las Vegas Mobile, Jackpot City Mobile, and of course William Hill and Platinum Play Mobile. The mobile casino allows you to be... well, more mobile, giving you the ability to play where you and your phone are.

California Online Poker Excites Poker Pros

Popular poker pro Phil Hellmuth said this week that he is excited for Internet poker to be legalized in California, as several state lawmakers continue to try to push the bill through the legislature. It's Going to be Huge Hellmuth, an 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, said this week during a WSOP event: "It's going to be huge...They say California alone will generate as much online poker revenue as the country of Italy. However, lawmakers face an uphill battle to approve the new measure, after the Los Angeles Times conducted a poll which showed that only half of people support online poker legalization in California. The survey showed that the other half of respondents say online gambling would be detrimental for young people. State of Play The Internet Gambling Consumer Protection and Public Private Partnership Act of 2012 was introduced after the US Department of Justice ruled that in-state online poker does not violate federal laws against online gambling. But it has stagnated, and has not seen any formal debate since late March. Earlier in May, a California gaming commissioner called his state "the sleeping giant," pointing out that California has a population of almost 40 million, compared with Nevada's less than three million residents and four millions visitors per month. However, the commissioner questioned whether California could formulate a viable law.

Spain, Online Gambling Firms Reach Tax Deals

Several leading European online gambling operators have reached agreements with the Spanish government in the past week to pay millions in back taxes, as the cash-strapped nation seeks extra revenue ahead of the next license round. Operators pay back taxes Gibraltar-based 888 Holdings and bwin.party Digital Entertainment and London-headquartered Sportingbet all signed deals with the Spanish government to pay several million euros in back tax payments this week. All did so in the hope that it would help them obtain a license to offer their services to Spanish online gamblers. 888 said in a statement following its own €7.4 million payment that it had concluded discussions with Spanish authorities regarding gaming duty for the priod of January 2009 to May of last year. It said the figure was based on the company's own tax self-assessment, and paved the way for it to receive a Spanish iGaming licence from the beginning of June.Bwin.party digital paid a staggering 33 million euros after carrying out its own tax self-assessment. Sportingbet Plc was set to fork out a tax bill of somewhere around the 20 million euro mark as well. Spain seeks revenue Foreign operators have known for some time now that Spain would be issuing its first online gambling licenses in June. But it was only last month that the government - which is carrying out large spending cuts in order to deal with a stagnating economy - contacted them to say that it would apply two existing laws which previously were considered irrelevant. These two laws required foreign operators to pay retrospective taxes for the period of January 2009 to May 2011, a time during which they operated in the Spanish market but outside a clearly regulated legal framework. Although they did not specifically tie the awarding of licenses to the back payments, most major companies have understood the message. Smaller operators leaveLarger operators have been able to deal swiftly with the Spanish government's move, but many of the smaller companies who have also been operating in the not-so-regulated environment are leaving the country out of fear that they too will be forced to make millions in back payments.Omni Casino wrote in a letter received by Online Casino Reports last week that it would no longer accept accounts from Spain once May ends. It said all of its Spanish players would be cashed out upon request and that it would help with any queries. It is believed other similarly sized operators will make similar moves.
