Canada sweeps at WSOP in Vegas

Canadian Jason Duval just scored 7 bracelets out of 28 Las Vegas events, setting the record for the most bracelets won by a non-US country at the World Series of Poker. Since Duval's big success, Justin Oliver and Daniel Idema added an additional two titles to Canada's grand total, for an incredible overall count of 9 out of 39 tournaments. 37 year-old Toronto player, Oliver, beat 566 players at WSOP $2,500 No Limit Hold'em - 4 Handed (Event #38). His prize was $309,071. Then, 28 year-old Vancouver native, Idema, beat 558 players at WSOP $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo (Event #39), winning $184,590. His career earnings (for his poker career, that is; he was a pro hockey player before that) now total $1,699,642. Other Canadian winners at WSOP 2013 include Charles Sylvestre, Benny Chen, Michael Malm, Levi Berger, Mark Radoja, and Calen McNeil. To put Canada's sweep in perspective, there are a total of 62 WSOP gold bracelet events - that makes 9 out of the first 39 a pretty big deal! The impressive skill may be due to the legal status of online poker in Canada, which greatly improves players' skills in the live arena, and player Jonathan Duhamel's 2010 Main Event win and subsequent TV appearances. He explained the basics to the masses and as WPT Montreal Season XI winner Jonathan Roy explained, since then, more and more people have really begun to understand what poker is all about. Here are the bracelet tallys so far at WSOP 2013: United States: 25 Canada: 9 Belgium: 2 Australia: 1 Austria: 1 Bulgaria: 1 Want to see how you'd stack up? Wimbledon Live Betting: Djokovic v Haas

"There's no clear favorite," Novak Djokovic has declared in the hours leading up to his game against 13 th -seeded German Tommy Haas in their Round of 16 Wimbledon match on Monday. And while that's a slight exaggeration, it's easy to see why the Serb world number one is worried. Djoka leads Haas 5-3 in overall head-to-head meetings, but the pair have split their two matches this season. Haas has won their only two matches on grass - in the Gerry Weber Open final in 2009 and a few weeks later in the Wimbledon quarters. More importantly, this year's Wimbledon men's singles draw has been full of surprises. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer bowed out to players ranked in the hundreds in the first and second round respectively, leaving Djokovic and Brit Andy Murray as the only two of the top four players competing for the title. William Hill Sports seems to disagree with Djokovic's assessment of Haas' capabilities in their pre-match betting odds. Djoka is 1/14 to win this evening's match while Haas is way out at 13/2. The other usual betting options are present, including set betting, tiebreaks and scorecasts. BBC is broadcasting Djokovic-Haas match and other Wimbledon matches throughout the UK, while other providers are responsible for global broadcasts. However, in this age of Internet it is worth noting that William Hill's WHTV is also live streaming the best matches of this year's top tennis grand slam. If you're making online bets through William Hill and watching through their Wimbledon live streaming service, then why not have a live bet on the Djokovic game? Thanks to Hill's in-play function, all account-holders can place wagers on point, game, set and match result while the action takes place at the All England Club - with live, updated odds.

PKR launches real-money mobile poker app

This month the 3D online poker operator, PKR, launched their new real-money poker app. The app was released for the iPad and iPhone and is currently available to UK customers. This launch now means that PKR has real-money mobile apps for Poker, Blackjack and Roulette. Development of the mobile poker app took time because PKR needed the mobile version to meet the same requirements of their desktop poker client. A PKR spokesperson had the following to say about the launch. "We couldn't be any more psyched about launching our real money poker on mobile. It really is our 'monster hand' and it's awesome to see so many downloads already. If you're jetting off on holiday but need to wait around in the airport for three hours before the flight - you can just whip out the iPhone and enter a Sit & Go. That's probably the coolest thing for us and the app's only going to get better over time." The mobile app went through rigorous beta testing in order to raise the quality of the app and fix as many bugs as possible. The app allows players to play Texas Holdem, Pot-limit Omaha and Omaha Hi-Low. Players can play both Sit & goes and cash games on the app. Players can use the built-in chat feature to communicate with other players and have over 40 different avatars to choose from. PKR also included chip trick animations, and over 20 different playing environments inspired by PKR's desktop poker client.

Special Report: Legality of Online Gambling in US

In late 2011, the US Department of Justice passed a landmark ruling that individual states can legalize online gambling without fear of repercussions. While federal legalization still faces many hurdles, a number of states have already approved eGaming and a number more are waiting in the wings. Below is the updated list. Legal Online Gambling Nevada, as always is the pioneer. In June this year, licensee Ultimate Poker opened its doors to intra-state customers in the country's first legal, real-money Internet gambling launch. This is only the first step. In February, the state finalized a law authorizing local firms to host online gambling for non-residents - effectively creating a nationwide framework for online gambling where the feds have failed to do so. Delaware actually beat Nevada to legalization in June 2012, but with more restrictions. Under the Delaware Gaming Competitiveness Act 2012, Delaware Lottery will be the sole regulator of real-money poker, slots, bingo and video lottery games. In May 2013 it selected a joint bid from 888, Scientific Games Corp and WMS to operate the state's Internet Gambling services. New Jersey was the third to join the online gambling rush. Its law, which is set to be implemented later this year, sets up a 10-year trial period in which the state will issue intrastate online gambling licenses to Atlantic City casinos and tax them at 15% (instead of 10% for land-based casinos). Next States in Line Pennsylvania has emerged as the likely next candidate to endorse online gambling, after lawmakers introduced a bill in April that would allow existing land-based gambling establishments to offer online casino games including poker. If the law passes, out-of-state software firms will be permitted to partner with local gambling operators. California was originally considered the frontrunner for legal in-state online gambling, but those efforts have fallen by the wayside. Other states that are looking at ways to legal some form of Internet gambling are Connecticut, Ohio and Iowa. New York does not seem to be considering online casinos and poker, but there has been talk that it will enable lottery tickets to be sold online. Not Anytime Soon Most of the Southern states such as Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia, leave little room for movement on the online gambling issue. All have pretty strong penalties for the activity on the books, and the situation appears likely to change only in the event that the federal government steps in and legalizes on a nationwide level. Illinois and Massachusetts lawmakers have both made efforts in recent years, but these moves seem to have been blocked for now. In Illinois, state senators recently passed a gambling expansion bill but only after deleting all references to online gambling. In Mass, an online gambling amendment was removed before passage of this year's state budget. For more information about legality of online gambling worldwide, click here.

EU Okays Levy on French Online Horse-Race Betting

Online gambling association have protested the European Commission's approval of a French proposal to impose an extra levy on online horse-race betting in order to finance horse-racing companies. EU Gives Go Ahead As part of its online horse-race betting reforms, France notified the European Commission of a its proposal to impose an additional levy of 8% on all online horse-race betting wagers. It said the revenues from this levy would finance a service to improve and promote horse-breeding. The Commission opened an investigation into the proposal in 2010, finally deciding this week that the French scheme is compatible with its own regulations. It took the view that by spreading the burden of financing races between the various operators, the measure would allow for fair competition in the online horse-race betting market. Gambling Bodies Protest The Remote Gambling Association and the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) released a joint press release expressing "concern" about the EC decision. They noted that France proposed the levy in 2010 because of fear that more competition in horserace betting would threaten the sport's revenues, but that revenues have grown steadily since then. They also noted that levies or parts of levies can only be justifiable if they truly serve common interest objectives, such as veterinary research or treatment, and claimed that by transferring funds from one industry to another would distort competition between sectors and member states (and therefore be liable to legal challenge).

Live Betting: Tour de France Stage 4

Nice is only about 100km across the water from the island of Corsica, but it is a world apart for the participants in the 2013 Tour de France. After three days of cycling more than 500km through the sometimes hilly, sometimes flat countryside of Corsica, the riders enter their first city time trial on day four today. This will be the only team time trial in this year's Tour. The TTT is a road-based bike race in which teams race against the clock, starting at equal intervals of a couple of minutes apart. Unlike the individual time trials (of which there will be two later in the Tour), each member of the team must spend some time in front of and behind their teammates. Competition will be hot in day four, with more than just the general classification and individual jerseys at stake. This is one of those days in which each of the 19 teams gets to show off their skills and place themselves in the position to be the leading team when the Tour de France rolls into Paris on July 21. William Hill is offering seven Tour de France Outright Markets throughout cycling's biggest annual event, including: 2013 Winner, Points Classification Winner, King of the Mountains, Team Classification Winner, Young Rider Classification Winner, Podium Finish and Top 10 Finish. Throughout the tournament they are offering pre-stage betting each day. Be a part of the live Tour action by placing a live bet at any stage throughout today's Team Time Trial or during any of the other stages of the event. Whether the cyclists are in the mountains, racing time trials or heading toward the Champs Elysees for that coveted yellow jersey, Hill will be there will constantly updated odds.
