Online Gaming World News Round Up

Albania to Shut Down Online Gambling Albania Prime Minister Edi Rama is encouraging the government to shut down all overseas online gambling sites in a determined effort to stop the outflow of money from one of the most impoverished regions in Europe.   Albanian gambling on foreign websites is estimated to be approximately €500 to €700 million a year, and legislation shutting down these sites would help keep that large sum of money in the country.   Since the new government party came into power in June, there have been strict crackdowns on casinos operating without proper licenses and 1300 casinos and betting shops have already been closed down across the country.   Online Sports Betting Might Have a Chance in China Rumour has it that Chinese company 500 has come to an understanding with their government that would allow them to provide an online gaming platform specifically for sports betting (excluding Macau). Only a few obstacles stand in the way of 500: They would need to raise $150 million in order to offer the platform for online sports betting. The actual betting would be tied to China's lottery service, which only offers a 68% return on players' bets. (Illegal sites in China offer a large percentage of return.) 500 will not be able to offer "in-play" bets, which are very popular among the Chinese, thus they might not be able to draw players from illegal online casinos to their own. Despite the obstacles, this is the first real chance that China has at legal sports betting, and Western online operators would love to get in on the action. Bulgaria is on a Blacklisting Roll Bulgaria has added another five online gaming operators to its list of 150+ sites. The five websites are PrimeCasino, Oddsring, BetCris, BetSonic and BetCave.   The sites have only a two-week window in which they can appeal their blacklisted status; an appeal will only be accepted if they prove that they have completely withdrawn from the market. New Gaming Act Introduced in Slovenia Slovenia plans to introduce a new Gaming Act in early 2014. It has already notified the European Union of its intentions, which is a requirement under EU law, and must now wait for the approval of the European Commission. The Commission must review the Act to make sure that it complies with EU treaties.

Delaware Launches Online Gambling

October 31, 2013 saw the soft launch of Delaware's online gambling program, open to a hand-picked selection of real-money players. The program will open to the public on November 8, and will include a full suite of casino games, such as poker, blackjack, roulette and slots. Delaware residents can access the system through any one of the three online Delaware racetrack casinos; the one condition is that they have a Delaware address, and that they are physically in Delaware at the time of their playing. Delaware legalized gambling back in June 2012; it took quite a long time until the legislation turned into reality. Online gaming is expected to give a small but significant boost to Delaware's economy, bringing in an estimated  $5 million in the first year. Thomas Cook, Finance Secretary of Delaware stated, "This is another chapter in Delaware's history of staying competitive in the gaming industry. It is something that has to grow but we're in a fiercely competitive environment here. This is just one more opportunity for entertainment.'' And he hopes the entertainment will attract new players, in addition to the typical patrons of Delaware casinos who tend to be in their 40s-50s Ed Sutor, Chief Executive at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, said that it was a smart move for Delaware to legalize online gambling. "The Internet is part of everyday life. You are either going to get on the train or be left behind. We are going to get on the train.''

NetPlay TV Buys Out Sportech PLC for £3 million

Liverpool-based Sportech PLC will be selling its e-gaming business, Vernons, to Netplay TV for £3 million. The decision to sell was made after a strategic review of Vernons' performance over the past six months, and the figures showed a failing casino. From January to June 2013, the company reported a .7 million loss, and the losses only got worse as the year progressed. Vernons would have required additional investments in order to make an acceptable amount of profit, and Sportech executives decided it was not worth it. Ian Penrose, Chief Executive of Sportech, commented on the sale, "We are delighted to have realised £3m in cash for the sale to NetPlay, who will be able to combine increased scale and market leading interactive gaming television skills to take the business forward. This is another positive step in increasing the focus of Sportech on operations where we hold competitive advantage, particularly those in the US." The sale includes the entire network of Vernons Online Casino, poker, bingo and sportsbook websites, in addition to the customer databases. Customer accounts at Sportech will simply be moved over to Netplay TV, as will some employees. NetPlay Chief Executive Charles Butler is excited about the acquisition. It "fits very well with the Group's core business, adds scale and customer reach, and will be integrated quickly and efficiently to realise the excellent operational synergies."

Live Betting: Juventus v. Real Madrid

The stakes are high tonight at Juventus stadium where the home team will host Real Madrid for a match in the UEFA Champions League Group B. This is the highlight of tonight's fixtures, "a classic" as Juventus manager Antonio Conte said. His compatriot, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, will be aiming to hit a three-win streak in the group stage. Just two weeks ago at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real secured a 2-1 over Juventus, so the Old Lady will be looking for a retribution in her home field, and not just that - Juventus needs the three points to stay relevant. Juventus getting out of the picture this early at the group stage would be problematic, so we are expected to see utmost motivation by the white-blacks. A win would give the team a clear head in their next two matches - a home match against Copenhagen and an away match against Galatasaray. If Real wins tonight, it's straight to the knockout stages, so they have all the reasons to do so. Juventus will be missing key players tonight with Giorgio Chiellini's suspension and Stephan Lichtsteiner's injury. For Full Time Result, bet365 sports is offering 6/4 on Juventus, 9/5 on Real Madrid and 11/4 for a draw. A total of 93 betting markets are available for this game including Correct score, Half Time/Full Time, Total Goals and goal scorer markets. Bet365 will cover the full range of Champions League games tonight so make sure to log-in your account and make your bet count.
