Fascinating Study Shows Online Poker Effects on Players' Brains

Behind every poker face there is a poker brain, and that might be more complex than it sounds. A new study conducted by behavioral research consultancy SimpleUsability has checked the inner workings of players' minds as they played online poker, and the results include some interesting findings. Methodical Approach The study was conducted among six online poker player of three different skill-tiers: Two experts, two intermediates and two beginners. The players' emotional and cognitive states were measured using EEG (Electroencephalography) headsets which were used in conjunction with advanced analysis software, as they were playing Texas Hold 'Em. By monitoring players' brain waves, the device is able to record different emotional and cognitive states: Frustration, engagement and excitement. The players were placed in a comfortable environment to resemble their standard home setting where they play online poker, and the gameplay sessions ranged from 35 to 40 minutes. Multiple Tables The more experienced players turned out to be bored while playing only at one table, what prompted them to open more tables as they played. Levels of excitement increased when the expert players' turns came simultaneously at the multiple tables. At the same time, an intermediate player was frustrated when he played two tables and had to make a decision at the same time – all players who played on multiple tables were frustrated when they were folded and awaiting their next turn. Peaks of Excitement Excitement peaks were observed in all players at certain situations. One of the beginners reached a peak at the first instance when he was required to decide whether to call or fold; the other beginner's excitement level peaked when the winner of the first hand he played was revealed – even with the fact that it wasn't the player who won. A universal increase in excitement was registered when players won (as opposed to frustration when losing), and when players raised and called when other players at the table had raised. Patterns and Tips Online poker beginners show a tendency to become agitated during different plays of the game, something that may lead them to ditch logical thinking: The study strongly advices to stay focused and abstain from "automatic" responses, like when deciding to commit oneself to a hand on a Turn card that is sometimes unjustly held as an insignificant part of the game. At the same time, players should steer clear of playing on multiple tables unless they genuinely feel ready – and even then, their perception might be far from the concrete reality and their skills. Multi-table gameplay is for the experienced players only, those not fit for its demand might find themselves not only frustrated but with painful hits on their bankroll. The Science of Online Gambling This research joins other studies which suggest that online gambling and poker are good for players' brains in the long run. The brain is given good training by the need to recall cards, resort to mathematical calculations and think strategically. Some have suggested that this mental workout not only increases brainpower so-to-say, but also possess the potential to decrease the chances of Alzheimer disease development, prevent dementia and so on. Some have also suggested that different forms of online gambling can be great for stress reduction – only in healthy doses and with safety measures, of course. It is also interesting to see how researchers are drawn to online gambling and its science – something that can be a testament to its growing popularity, alongside the millions of players at popular online poker rooms the likes of 888 Poker and Winner Poker.

Winner Adds PayPal Support for UK Market

Winner is quickly rising in popularity as a multichannel gambling operator in the UK, covering betting channels such as sports betting, online casino, mobile, live, poker, bingo, and other. In attracting punters across a multitude of channels, it is crucial that Winner is able to accommodate their payment requirements, whether for deposits or withdrawals. As a result, Winner has recent announced the addition of PayPal support for its UK users. PayPal Popular for Online Bettors PayPal is widely known as the original e-wallet, as it emerged to provide a safer alternative to VISA and MasterCard at a time when both payments lacked the robust web security that they possess today. First associated with having an eBay account, PayPal soon rose to become a popular form of payment for online transactions. Consequently, there are millions of people in the UK with a PayPal account. Winner has widely added PayPal support to improve convenience for those users. How PayPal Works As described above, PayPal is categorised as an e-wallet. This essentially means that PayPal is a digital account with which you can send and receive money in a variety of currencies. You set up your account by linking either a bank account or debit/credit card. PayPal will request money from your payment source whenever you need to complete a transaction. PayPal is highly secure because it eliminates the need for you to enter your financial information when making transactions. Winner Competing in Restricted UK Market The UK online gambling market has become much more restricted since the launch of new legislation by the UK Gambling Commission in November 2014. Many operators have chose to leave the market because it has become more competitive. However, Winner is making efforts to improve its fortunes by improving the user experience. You can now deposit or withdraw using PayPal across all Winner channels.

Quebec Blocks Intl Online Gambling, Welcomes Amaya

The Canadian province of Quebec is seizing control of local online gambling. Plans to Block Providers Quebec Finance Minister Carlos Leitao announced plans to block IPs of internationally licensed gambling sites unless waivers are obtained from Quebec's provisional gambling regulator. These plans were disclosed as part of the 2015-16 Quebec budget plan, and emanates structurally from an adaption of the Consumer Protection Act as the law that governs gambling in the province. An amendment will be introduced requiring internet service providers in the region to block “illegal,” unregulated international licensees who have yet to obtain the local waiver. Local Monopoly Protected In Quebec's online gambling market context, this measure protects the interests of online gambling site Espace-jeux, which is run by the provincial monopoly Loto-Quebec (Quebec's state-sponsored lottery). Revenues for Espace are expected to jump with the measure, because of the struggle to gain a foothold in international online gambling that the provider had previously experienced only a 10% share of the $250 million regional online market in competition with internationally licensed sites that will now be blocked. Government revenues are expected to increase by $13.5 million in the first year of operation, with substantial annual gains of $27 million. Undue Regional Exercise of Power? This legislation demonstrates how governments can use their regional authority to their financial benefit in the online gambling context, where competition can be directly limited and influenced by licensing procedures. Nonetheless, private operators are not entirely shut out. Alternatives have been offered to operators who enter into agreements with the provincial Alcohol, Racing and Gambling Board (RACJ), with further details forthcoming shortly. Amaya is Still In There is also talk that selected private online gambling operators will be allowed to continue operating in Quebec, with Quebec-based Amaya Gaming expected to be allowed to offer PokerStars in the new regulated Quebec market. Concerns remain in the online industry regarding the appearance of government censorship for commercial gain, and precedents for online commerce in general as well as online gambling regulation in particular are sure to result.

NHL Live Betting: Battle for First between Tampa Bay and Montreal

The NHL Playoffs are only a couple weeks away from beginning and all teams in contention for a playoff berth are fighting to solidify their place in the off-season. One of the biggest battles in the NHL gets underway tonight at 00:30 (UK) between the Tampa Bay Lightning travelling to Montreal, Quebec to take on the Canadiens. The Montreal Canadiens are currently in first place in the Atlantic Division and second place overall in the entire NHL just one point behind the Mighty Ducks. The Lightning are just behind the Habs in second place of the Atlantic Division and could take over top spot with a couple of wins in these last eleven days. With the way Canadiens goaltender Carey Price is playing lately, the Lightning will need to work hard to find the back of the net, but they have been one of the best teams in the league this year and tonight should be a fast and furious game. Team Scope Lightning Tampa Bay have been amazing against the Canadiens all season, winning all four games between the two so far. Head to Head, the Lightning have scored 16 goals to the Canadiens’ 5, but will be hard-pressed to beat the Habs this late in the season, while in Canada. Stamkos, Hedman and Johnson have been the main threat for the Lightning scoring a combined 10 goals over the four games against the Canadiens. Bishop has been incredible in net against the Canadiens and tonight will come down to which goalie is on his game. Canadiens The Canadiens are having one of their best season in the last few years and look to cap it off with a good run in the 2015 playoffs. As it stands now, they will face the Boston Bruins in the first round, a team that they share one of the longest histories against in the entire NHL. They need a few more wins to stay in top spot and could do so against the Lightning tonight. Led by Pacioretty, Plakanec, Subban, Gallagher and Desharnais, the Canadiens are at full strength and will pose quite a threat for the visiting Lightning. Live in-Play Sports Betting Punters eager to place a bet on tonight’s huge game will be able to do so with an online sports book like bet365. The UK online bookmaker is offering live in play props throughout the 3 periods and a number of pre-game props including Over/Under (1.90), Point Spread, outright winner, Correct Score and much more.

Biased Witnesses Give Testimony at RAWA Hearing

This past Wednesday marked the first hearing on RAWA, the Restoration of America's Wire Act , a bill that would make online gambling illegal in the United States on a federal level. The hearing was held by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations and was prompted by Sheldon Adelson, the most outspoken opponent of online gambling in the country. Three Against Gambling John Kindt, professor emeritus of Business Administration at the University of Illinois School of Law and a long-time critic of online gambling, quoted weary cliches such as, "click your phone, lose your home" and "click your mouse, lose your house.” Not only did Kindt argue against online gambling, but he argued for even stricter provisions not included in RAWA. Les Bernal, national director of Stop Predatory Gambling, sought to preemptively answer two claims: that RAWA will trample on state rights, and that banning online gambling will just drive people to illegal sites. “If not the federal government,” Bernal said, “who will step in to protect the rights of individuals against these practices by an active, predatory state?” He continued to say that regulation won’t stop illegal gambling, and thus, no regulation should be passed. The third witness in the hearing was former U.S. Assistant Attorney Michael Fagan, who cited reports of Internet gambling being used to finance terrorism. What Fagan did not note was that these reports were actually from unregulated markets! He also cited that the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) reinterpretation of the Wire Act in 2011 had ulterior motives, a fact that seems somewhat irrelevant to the conversation.  Two Constitutional Witnesses The other two witnesses were more subjective on the issue of RAWA. These were WiredSafety executive director Parry Aftab and R Street Institute executive director Andrew Moylan. Aftab said that the regulation of online gambling in the United States will better protect American citizens, and that there is certainly the technology to prevent minors from using the sites. Moylan argued that RAWA is very problematic for states' rights.  All Opposed The congressmen in attendance were mostly anti-online gambling, with few exceptions. Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, sponsor of the bill, was present, as well as Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte, who said that online gambling can lead to suicide. On a brighter note, Rep. Ted Poe of Texas Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas both expressed concern over states’ rights.

Delaware and Nevada Combine Online Poker Markets

Delaware’s online poker market was heading for a drawn out collapse before launching the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) with Nevada. Coming just a week ago, the agreement has already helped to improve the fortunes of the Delaware online poker market. MSIGA has resulted in Delaware and Nevada combining their player pools to create a larger combined market between the two states. Turnaround for Delaware Online Poker Online gambling was first legalised in Delaware in November 2013, but online poker performance has been on a steep slide since then. Alarmingly, there was revenue of just $27,000 this January past, representing a 68.7% decline from January 2014. Industry statistics from PokerScout are already indicating a turnaround since the start of the year. After plenty of instances when fewer than 10 users were playing at cash tables, Delaware’s performance has turned dramatically in only seven days. Over that period, Delaware’s cash tables managed to attract 140 users for cash games. Those figures are just a little behind Nevada and New Jersey’s main poker sites: WSOP/888 (NJ) – 190 users; WSOP (NV) – 170 users; and Party Borgata (NJ) – 160 users. Agreement Driven by 888 Software MSIGA was entirely feasible because poker sites in Delaware and Nevada shared the same software, which is provided global online gambling operator 888. A similar arrangement occurred earlier in 2015, with 888 partnering with WSOP in New Jersey. Ultimately, that strategic partnership led to 888 and WSOP moving ahead of Party Borgata, as you can see from the user numbers in the list above. Nevada also appears willing to partner with other states like Delaware. However, that would require new states to legalise online gambling at a time when this issue is under scrutiny at the Congressional level. That being said, it would appear that the foundations are slowly being laid for a wider online poker market in the US.

International Soccer Live Bet: Italy vs England

Tonight will be the first international soccer friendly for Italy in 2015. They face off at home against England in what should be a fierce “friendly” battle for both teams, as they are playing for respect more than anything tonight. Both sides are fairly equal and in the past when they have faced off, the matches are fast and furious and terrific to watch. England come into tonight’s match after a relatively easy win against Lithuania last week, but a team like Italy is a different story. The Three Lions are unbeaten since the last World Cup in which they lost to Italy in the group stages. Much has changed since that tournament, but even if they come into tonight’s match as underdogs, England have a great shot at winning. Three Lions Licking their Wounds If they can get over the injuries to Danny Welbeck, Raheem Sterling, James Milner and Leighton Baines then Italy will have a lot to deal with. Italy is toughest team that England will have played in quite some time and the Azzurri lead their all-time match history 10-8 with 7 draws too. Graziano Pelle will most likely be the player to watch tonight for the Italians and Buffon will be minding the goal as predicted. Live International Soccer Online Gambling Bet365 Sports is offering some attractive lines for tonight’s big friendly between Italy and England. As it stands, Italy are the favorites by a slight margin of 2.40to win, 3.10 for a draw and 3.10 for England to win. The best bet is probably on the visitors but there will be many live in-play odds to try as well. Live in-play betting is an excellent way to bet online interactively, which offers a new experience to the world of online gambling.  Don't miss out on the biggest friendly match up of the night, with a number of hot online betting lines.

LeoVegas Mobile Casino Expansion is Booming

Offering over 350 games via mobile devices in addition to tablets and PCs, the UK's LeoVegas Casino has jumped to the forefront of the online gaming market since its launch in 2014. Implementing Growth In general, growth has certainly exceeded original expectations, a refreshing change from the often overambitious revenue projections for online activity that fill headlines in the contemporary environment of fledgling start-ups and mergers in iGaming. This has clearly been a proactive process, with innovative marketing measures driving growth in the UK market. Among them, the use “King of Mobile Casino” on all advertising material; the launch of the first LeoVegas.com TV advert in the UK; the introduction of the Leo the Lion logo as King of Mobile Casino to UK TV audiences; expanding TV and radio commercials broadcasts in the UK; and an iPhone 6 campaign voted number one PR stunt of 2014 within the gaming industry. LeoVegas plans for this year include further expansion of growth into territories outside the company's Nordic marketing and operation base. Expansion Model With employee support currently numbering over 100 on-staff positions in five different countries, LeoVegas has implemented an infrastructure to support expansion of online casino operations worldwide. Business drives expansion. UK deposits at LeoVegas' global casino have increased since the company's inception - rendering the UK LeoVegas' second largest global market. By the end of 2014, LeoVegas' net gaming revenues were hitting all-time highs successively for October, November and December 2014. LeoVegas has expanded since then to increase its net gaming revenues a further 130% through infrastructural supports such as the addition of new channels and the launch of a £2 million TV ad campaign. Robust growth is being bolstered by aggressive marketing as LeoVegas clearly looks to surge through the online casino revenue window.
