Ladbrokes, Microgaming Renew Supply Deal

Two of the biggest names in the world of online gambling - British bookmaker Ladbrokes and software provider Microgaming - have signed a new deal that will see the latter continue to supply the former into the future. Partnership Continues Under the terms of the new deal, Microgaming will continue to supply Ladbrokes' online operations with casino and games software. Ladbrokes, which currently takes around $25 billion worth of bets each year, said the deal gives both parties a big upside in revenue growth. Theirs is one of the oldest partnerships in the industry: Ladbrokes online casino has been powered by Microgaming software since taking its first online bet more than 10 years ago - way back in October 2000. Rivals Subdued The Ladbrokes-Microgaming team looked to be under threat as recently as April, when Ladbrokes withdrew from talks it was holding to purchase online rival 888 - a deal that would have seen it drop external suppliers in favour of 888's own software. However, the sportsbook said in a statement that it is still holding discussions with other suppliers, which will allow it to diversify its software and offerings. Nonetheless, it placed a heavy emphasis on its relationship with Microgaming, which it said allows it to offer its customers the best products possible.

California Online Poker Signs Up Playtech

More good news following the disaster that was Black Friday - the California Online Poker Association announced this week that it has selected Playtech joint venture Sciplay to provide intrastate online poker services. Playtech expands to US's biggest market Under the new deal, Sciplay, which is a joint project between online gaming software leader Playtech and the Scientific Games Corporation, will become sole provider to the biggest state in the union of local online poker services. In the hope that legislation will soon allow Californians to play legally, the deal will currently allow, free play for fun mode. COPA has signed an additional software licensing agreement with Playtech to provide online poker software and related technology, adding to the more than 80 poker and casino networks that the global giant powers worldwide. Five months in the making The agreement came after more than five months of talks and research, COPA said, with the aim of creating a platform through which California residents could legally participate in online poker. Of course this was all happening amidst the backdrop of the federal crackdown on poker in April, which targeted PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker. Sixty percent of American poker players live in California, so this deal is lucrative. Each week more than 2 million of them play online poker with offshore operators, which is why the states Senate Bill 40 - which would allow native Americans and card clubs to operate online poker - is so important.

WSOP Ratings are Poker Vote of Confidence

Despite the US authorities doing their best to spoil the party in the aftermath of Black Friday, poker is alive in the US - as shown by the record-setting attendance at the World Series of Poker so far. Entrants rise again Attendance at the 42nd annual version of the poker world's biggest event was up 11.7 percent at the halfway market of the multi-week series, putting it on pace to smash the previous record. With 30 of the 58 events already finished by Wednesday night Las Vegas time, total prize money from player buy-ins had risen 8.6% to almost $56 million. WSOP also broke a record on Friday, when 5,946 players were seated at the various tournaments - which it said was the most players entered on a single day in live casino poker history. And things should get even better is that the big drawcard hasn't even begun. The WSOP Main Event, which attracts the participation of thousands at a buy-in of $10,000 per head, is set to begin on July 7, at the close of this year's series. Good news for online poker The popularity of this year's tournament amidst all the doomsday predictions shows that both land-based and online poker are continuing to flourish, despite all the hardships faced by the US poker community of late. The events of April 15, also known as Black Friday - in which US prosecutors in New York indicted individuals associated with three Internet poker companies operating in the country, PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker - still loom large. But the games must go on!

Ladbrokes Overhauls Online Betting Operations

Ladbrokes, one of the biggest names in the world of gambling, will soon be undertaking a restructuring process that will see it change the way it operates its online betting and gaming services, according to various news reports. Ladbrokes have been in the news recently, with a new Microgaming deal. Closing gap on William Hill The impending restructure of the company's three business units under CEO Richard Glynn - retail, telephone and online betting - will redirect its focus to its customers and products, with an eye to keep in touch with main rival William Hill. Ladbrokes' net revenue increased by 1.3% last year as Hill climbed by 7%. A spokesman Ladbrokes said an internal announcement on the restructure would be made next week, which would see it move away from its outdated "retail, digital telephone structure and a move to one that puts the customer at the centre of what we do." Focus on online In a sign that the online sportsbook operations will be a heavy part of the new structure, online boss Gary McIlraith is set to leave his job less than one year after beginning. Ladbrokes has extensive online operations, headlined by its sports betting side, and also featuring an online casino, games and bingo. In addition it has been steadily boosting its presence in the mobile gaming arena, as the trend heads in that direction.

Paddy Power's Expanded Mobile Platform

Paddy Power, the well-known Irish online gaming operator, has entered into a partnership agreement with International Game Technology (IGT) to expand its mobile gaming platform. The terms of the agreement will see Paddy Power offer IGT's mobile games through its mobile platform allowing its loyal players to access web apps available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch and Android smartphone devices. The first phase of the launch will involve the release of six leading IGT mobile games. Among the titles are Rainbow Riches Pots of Gold, Jacks or Better video poker, 20+ Blackjack, Wipeout, Cleopatra and MONOPOLY Multiplier. Paddy Power is well recognised as Ireland's largest bookmaker and online sports betting operator yet this move is set to further strengthen its hold on the market. It was only last month that it reported a 33 per cent rise in the revenues of its online channel for 19 weeks ending on 15 May. Additionally, amounts staked on its mobile channel shot up by nearly 300 per cent over the same period. Mobile gaming already constitutes a third of Paddy Power's business and this latest deal with IGT can be expected to only further increase its attractiveness to players and hence its profitability. Developing their mobile games portfolio is merely a strategic business move to cash in on players' transition to the mobile market.
