Mexico's governing Institutional Revolutionary Party is planning to propose gambling reforms in the new legislative season which started Sunday, according to reports from news agencies. Gambling Reforms According to the reports, the government's proposed bill follows New Jersey's new online gambling laws by requiring licensing to be restricted to operators who are approved for land-based gaming facilities. The proposal includes measures against underage gambling, problem gambling and money laundering, and proposes the creation of a National Gaming Commission that would oversee licensing, regulation, enforcement and consumer complaints. 'In Need of Reform' The PRI prepared the bill after meeting with the Mexican Secretariat of the Interior (SEGOB), the body concerned with the country's internal affairs. Mexico currently has 400 legal land-based gambling centers in operation around the country, making the future of its gambling industry a big issue among all the political parties. Mexico's gambling laws are in need of reform, PRI Senator Veronica Martinez Espinosa said on behalf of her party.
