Casinos Lead Mississippi Recovery

Now, people who live along the casino hotels and those visiting them for a vacation can see for themselves that there is hope. As they re-open after repair work, those who visit the Gulf Coast and see it as the Las Vegas of the South can once again enjoy the themas they like to so much. These venues in fact hold the key to the area's development as it rebuilds from the destruction of 2005. The coastal cities of Biloxi and Gulfport are rebuilding their beachfronts based on and surrounding them. Of the already renovated hotel casinos is the Beau Rivage. It is once again as luxurious as ever. Not far away are its competitors and comrades in recovery, the Isle of Capri and Imperial Palace. These venues will soon see the new kid on the block, the Hard Rock's bed and bets showplace. As they develop and re-emerge as tourist attractions, they still, however, sharply contrast with their surroundings. The areas around them are still in the process of recovery, attracting visitors to view the effects of the natural disaster and hoping that their recovery follows that of the casinos. Mississippi's Gulf Coast gambling began in 1992. Only following the damage Katrina posed and the danger it presented for the future, did state laws change so that they accommodate casino hotels to be built onshore, and not off shore on barges as in the past. Predictions of a $2 billion Gulf Coast gaming industry by 2010 are not unheard of anymore, higher than they were before Katrina struck. The new reality, sad as it was and still is, has brought with it new jobs and happy gamblers and employees.

Watchdog Completes Industry Survey

The exhibition will draw even more interest and attention, as the regulatory board eCOGRA will report its industry-wide survey results. Early reports of "surprises" to appear in the report have everybody in anticipatory-mode. The survey commissioned by the non-profit organization is the largest ever of its kind. It was carried about around the world, collecting data from over 10,000 respondents in the US, the UK, Germany and Sweden among other countries. With such wide scope it is surely the most important survey to date and will be received as a welcome source for the clearest picture of the state of sites and gamblers. Moreover, it is believed to hold some surprises for those involved in the industry. eCOGRA has been active in the arena for several years, and has won the Watchdog of the Year award in 2005, voted on by gamblers. The report to be published for the first time at the ICE is called "The Global Online Gambler Report." While eCOGRA has managed it and will be reporting it to the world, it was carried out in partnership with the gambling research team at Nottingham Trent University and a team from University of Nevada Las Vegas. Reviewing the gamblers' perspective, the report will focus on issues of player preferences, favorite games, security, protection and responsible gambling, among other fields. Spiking expectations, eCOGRA CEO Andrew Beveridge said in an early statement that "Early indications are that there will be some surprises in the report." Providers and the gamblers themselves are looking forward.

Online Casino Slots Rules

Online casino sites offer several different versions of slot machines. Their appearance might differ, the themes they carry and other features but their rules are much the same. No matter what the slots are or the number of paylines is, the goal is to line up certain varying combinations. There is more than one winning combination, although some combinations pay more than others. Some pay much more. The jackpots depend on these two elements much more than on any differences in appearance. Payouts vary depending on the number of reels and symbols every online casino slot machine has. Slot machines got much more exciting with the rise of the online casino sites and the invention of the progressive slot machines. Payouts are no longer predetermined. Unlike regular slot machines, in which one knows the amount one might win if the right combination comes out, with these new online casino games the jackpot grows at all times. The other difference one must take into consideration is that progressive slots are much more complex, as they often have five or more reels and anywhere between three and 20 paylines. Learn how many paylines you can bet on at every sitting and what option wagers you may place at every round. Most important to remember when playing progressive slots at the online casino is that to be eligible for the entire jackpot, worth as many as several million dollars, one must bet the maximum number of paylines that the machine features. Additionally, the maximum wager must also be bet on every single spin, or at least on the one spin that hopefully will yield the winning combination. Then the online casino will make a millionaire out of you too.

Curiosity High Over Casino Survey

They promised surprising results, which got many around the industry very interested in what the survey has to tell. So excited in fact, that I think I am going to play at the slots to release some of this tension. But seriously, what can the survey have in store for us? What surprises might come and who will they surprise exactly? Will the gamblers find out something they don't already know, or will the companies and executives learn something new about the service they provide? We have a few guesses. But first let us say a word about the survey itself. Over the past several months, the independent, non-profit, regulatory board eCOGRA (e-Commerce Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance) has surveyed over 10,000 gamblers, players and users. This award winning organization has been watching out for the gamblers' interests by setting standards and overseeing operations. The player-perspective was also in the center of the survey it launched, an attempt to map the needs, preferences and concerns of gamblers worldwide. The results of the much anticipated survey will be announced during the industry's upcoming annual exhibition, the International Casino Exhibition (ICE), in London, opening January 23. As the study team offered "surprises," it leaves us guessing what they might be. Looking into psychological and business aspects, they can be any one of a load of things. Will they crush business concepts concerning how gamblers choose sites to join, their loyalty to sites and considerations in choosing who to join? Will it include criticism of the online casino companies' marketing strategies or the players' decision making? Maybe it will have some encouraging words for the direction the industry is going. In any case, it is going to be interesting.

Online Casinos Debated in Turkey

It has been so to the point that it had hosted land based casinos and allowed gambling until only a few years ago, a practice that has attracted tourism and helped the Turkish economy grow. However, a report that came out this week tells of restrictions that are likely to be introduced concerning the online gambling industry. The Turks are facing a decision many countries also face these days, and the direction they take will be closely watched by gamblers worldwide. A Turkish newspaper reported that authorities in the country point their finger, claiming they are "denigrating Turkishness, the republic, the institutions and organs of the state." An amendment to the censorship laws being introduced will censor and block sites that encourage, promote or offer online gambling, practically shutting down any option the Turks have of gambling online. The censorship law applies to more than just gambling sites, targeting various web sites that at times are criminal and at times within the definition of freedom of expression, at least in the opinion of some. The bill will mainly combat child abuse and indecent broadcasting, but include online casinos as well, as it is currently proposed. Penalties will be prison sentences of between half a year and three years. The law is controversial and being debated in Turkey, as well as elsewhere around the world. Does the government need to protect gamblers who play online from themselves? Is online gambling a form of entertainment and skills or something else that needs to be outlawed? To add to the controversy over the proposed bill is the recent memory of the trial against Nobel Prize winner, Orhan Pamuk, for expressing his opinions that the authorities wanted censored. Soon we will all learn of the direction the Turkish government will choose to take.

Payment Advisory might become Law

Mike Weir, a British MP representing the Scottish National Party in the Angus constituency of Scotland, has requested that a cap on individual wagers of GBP 1,000 per week be placed on gamblers and has also suggested that they be limited to the use of one credit card per site. Weir is just one of several parliamentarians who rationalize that such involvement by the government can be justified on the grounds of results that have returned from a recent survey. The survey illustrated the popularity of online gambling, the reality TV coverage it generates and the faster pace of online gambling action. The concern among government officials is that some gamblers may not have sufficient self-control or discipline in a national economic climate where credit is quite simple to obtain. When it comes to imposing commercial controls, credit card companies have not been particularly active. Therefore, the fear is that excessive debt could be run up by fans. Recent surveys have shown that up to 4 million UK residents now play online, every month, and the predictions are that this will grow by 22 percent in 2007, thanks in large to the increased focus on the European market following the American gaming financial bans. Until now, general industry reaction has been against the idea of government-induced restrictions and maximums of this nature, claiming that problem gamblers constitute a small minority that is better addressed by anti-addictive and underage measures. Additionally, it could be argued that better organization and control, as well as smart card technology by the banking institutions could have a positive impact as well.

Entertainment Bets All Month Long

Online sportsbooks took Lionel Richie's words and changed them around a bit, from "Karamu, fiesta, forever / Come on and sing along / All night long!" to "All month Long." Such is January fever, with sites running sports bets on the Super Bowl throughout the month. Football fans may follow the playoff results throughout the month and fans can see how the odds vary and change as the games are decided. From the Wild Card games in early January, through the conference semi-finals, the AFC and NFC Championships and all the way to the ultimate Superbowl match (February 4 in Miami, Florida), the sport of football has been a source of entertainment for Americans and sports fans around the world for the past 41 years. With online sportsbooks supplying us with odds on the competing teams, the scope of fans that can now enjoy this extraordinary form of entertainment has increased dramatically. One can be a fan of the sport and have a favorite team he cheers in its playoff matches, but with odds posted at the online casino there is another aspect to the games. This year's New England Patriots fan will face the San Diego Chargers fans that are officially, according to online sportsbooks 5/2 favorites to win Superbowl XLI. Although sports entertainment events are posted odds for at gambling sites all through the year, football being only one of them, January and the Superbowl are exceptional. Just as the game itself breaks records of TV ratings and 30 second commercial costs, so do the online casino sites enjoy record breaking traffic and betting. Sitting in front of a TV is not the only form of entertainment that sports fans can enjoy in the 21st century. Online gambling adds its own special value.

Land Based Casinos are Also Online

Yet, a closer look into land based casinos will, if not go as far as make them online casino-like, then reveal ties to the online world.
