Do You Celebrate Holy Week In Your Country?

In other countries, they don't have work during the Holy Week. They consider it a long holiday off. Especially Holy Thursday and Good Friday. I think it's double pay for those days if you are going to work...   People usually stay at home or visit different churches so they can pray the rosary.

Yes, we do here in the Philippines.  It's long vacation for most of us and people go to summer spots in the country. Usually we go swimming. Others go on hike and visit different provinces..

 

If it's during Good Friday and Black Saturday, people stay at home to watch shows and movies about Jesus. We also pray the rosary and it's part of our culture to visit 7 churches on Good Friday. It could be more but 7 is fine.

I think Asian people who are mostly Christians value Holy Week so much. Some of them think of it as vacation time due to long weekend but I hope they realize it's for remembering how Jesus sacrified Himself for all mankind.

Hmmmm I think it depends on each country's culture and tradition. Not all of us are Christians and some people don't believe in Jesus. I guess we just need to respect each other's belief.

in my country, "Indonesia" we dont do such thing. maybe because it's been a long time since my last visit to church, around 3 year. we dont have public holiday for christian thing, except easter and christmas.

As you all already know, the United States is one of the most multicultural countries in the world, especially in major cities like New York. A multiculturalism that makes it possible for many of the major religions to live together. However, the most abundant religious group in the United States is that of the Evangelical Protestant churches. That is why Holy Week in the United States is not lived in the same way as in Catholic countries like Spain. There are very significant differences.

While Catholic groups in the country (comprised primarily of Hispanics, Irish, and Poles) do celebrate Holy Week with liturgical events similar to those celebrated in Spain, most Americans dedicate the dates of Holy Week to more secular celebrations. No processions. No confraternities. No masses. Similarly, not all private companies respect these vacation days. It depends on each one of them. What is clear is that, regardless of religion, Easter in the USA is a special date.

I am from Canada and we are celebrating Holy Week.
