Online bookmaker Sportingbet has received a boost from an increase in the use of its popular smartphone applications, the Channel Islands-based company said Wednesday. Sportingbet now boasts some 10,000 mobile gaming customers, a 10-fold increase since it launched its iPhone application just six months ago and constituting some 7 percent of its total customer base. The growth was also noticed in overall live sports betting, which rose 27% in the quarter ending October. Total wagers increased by 11 percent to £513.9 million, while profits rose 17 percent to £11.3 million on the back of growth in its online gaming sectors in Australia and eastern Europe. Sports Betting Business This latest announcement comes as speculation increases over a possible merger between Sportingbet and another major gambling company. A merger with Sweden's Unibet was on the cards until earlier in November, when Sportingbet confirmed it had pulled out of those talks.
