Murray and Djokovic Go into Wimbledon's Second Rounds

The third day at Wimbledon begins today with second rounds after no big surprises in the first ones, with no favorites like Federer or Nadal knocked out. Today's headline matches see defending champion Andy Murray meeting Blaz Rola from Slovenia and favorite Novak Djokovic meeting Czech Radek Stepanek for a tough fight. Andy Murray vs. Blaz Rola (1pm UK time) Andy Murray seems determined on defending his championship this year as he beat Belgium's David Goffin in three sets in the first round back in Monday. Today the No. 5 ranked Murray meets Blaz Rola from Slovenia (No. 92) who also came through against his competitor Pablo Andujar of Spain in three sets on the first round. Having never stepped on Wimbledon's Centre Court before, Rola told the press that he hopes to contain himself during the match, saying it would be a very big shock if he could win. Novak Djokovic vs. Radek Stepanek (3:45pm UK time) The match pitting Serbia's Novak Djokovic (No. 2) against Radek Stepanek from the Czech Republic (No. 8) is very intriguing. These are two excellent players who seemed in excellent form in their first round games, both eager to make an impression today. Djokovic was beaten by Murray in Wimbledon's Men's final last year and he will be looking to turn that around, while Stepanek is a very experienced player who beat Andy Murray just two weeks ago at Queen's Club. Dutch Gaming To Have Broader Online Authority

Jan Suyver, the chairman of the Netherlands' Dutch Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit, has issued a warning to online gaming operators illegally aiming at the Dutch market that illegal sites will now be closed down. Report Details New Dutch Government Regulatory Powers The Kansspelautoriteit’s 2013 Annual Report outlines new authorities it will use to regulates the online market beginning in the opening months of 2015. The key to the new regulations is the swiftness of the authority of the Dutch government. Suyver asserts: “If you want to be fast in protecting consumers from a specific illegal provider, you need solid legal remedies to be able to do so,” Suyver said. Direct Shutdowns and Early Warnings The new regulator is empowered with directly shutting down websites of online gaming providers whose companies are operating without a license, and additionally is prepared to issue customer alerts citing the names of specific providers who have operated without the necessary formalities. This is a telling example of the work global governments have to do to identify and shut down the unlicensed sites in their jurisdiction, which protects both users and government revenues from unscrupulous gaming providers.

Can Ecuador Hold Off France?

Group E looked like it would be competitive since the first day it was posted and it hasn't let anyone down.  There have been close nail-biting matches and utter blowouts like the France/Switzerland embarrassment.  Before tonight, Ecuador was sitting in second place in the group but looking much stronger and could be the wild card that has the ability to challenge the French and move on to the next round with them.In their incredibly short history against one another, France defeated Ecuador in the 1 match 2-0.  France is looking like they will be a contender for the finals after the destruction of the Swiss but cannot get to cocky before tonight as the Ecuadorians have many weapons at their disposal.Tale of the TapeWhen weighing in on these teams its crucial to look at the talent on each team.  Les Bleus have been considered the stand out team of the tournament so far and have a real shot at winning it all.  They have a young vibe to them when on the attack led by Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud and Moussa Sissoko.  After a crazy victory against Honduras in which they were trailing, Ecuador proved that they are a real threat and can play with the best in the world.  Enner Valencia needs to continue to lead the offense (already scored 3 goals) and get past the tough France midfield and defense.Tonight will give the whole picture as to who advances and who goes home empty handed in Group E.  It's Ecuador vs France tonight at 9:00pm (UK time) to end off a Wild Wednesday of World Cup Soccer live from Brazil.

Massachusetts Ballot Ruling Opens the Door to US Casinos

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has upheld the state ballot repeal of casino law. The ruling found unanimously that the rejection of an anti-casino ballot by state's Attorney General Martha Coakley last year was erroneous. First Public Debate on Casinos Now, a public vote will be permitted on repealing state anti-casino laws in the November elections. A volatile referendum campaign is expected, when the controversial components of the law will be bandied about before the voters decide the ultimate fate of the gambling industry in the state. Significant funding from lobbying groups and national interest is expected with the referendum, because other state governments and populations will likely be influenced by the extent to which Massachusetts public opinion reflects the general sentiment of the populace at this point towards the acceptance of gambling, and in particular online gambling. This is still an early stage for acceptance of gambling by states in the US. The Unseen Benefits Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association, fired the first salvo in the PR battle by pointing out positive benefits of gaming, in the following announcement: “While it’s up to Massachusetts to decide whether or not to welcome the thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenues gaming will bring to the Commonwealth, the AGA will ensure that voters have the facts about our industry instead of tired stereotypes. Revitalizing Communities “Gaming positively affects communities by creating thousands of jobs paying well above the minimum wage, helping small businesses grow and contributing millions of dollars in vital revenues for public services, such as education and safety.” While there are problem gamblers out there, the industry seeks to demonstrate that those stigmas are overblown, and shift public attention towards the added revenue benefits to state government and local communities. The Ongoing Moral Dilemma The most difficult hurdle, however, is likely the moral one, as the anti-casino laws are primarily morally based. Whether the practical benefits as indicated by casino advocates can overcome traditional moral objections lies at the heart of the issue, and the impending PR battle to come.

USA Online Gambling Regulation News

The online gaming world never sleeps, especially in the United States, where the issue of legalizing online gaming both at federal and state levels is constantly being evaluated. Here are the latest developments from the past week:Delaware and MacAs one of the three states to have passed legislation for online gambling, Delaware is introducing further innovations by allowing Mac users to log onto Delaware’s three online casinos sites without having to download the application. Secretary of Finance Tom Cook commented, “The success of internet gaming for the state, the casinos, and players depends on creating a fun and easy experience for everyone. We’re excited to offer an iGaming option that doesn’t require a Poker download, and we’re thrilled Mac users can now participate.”New Online Poker Bill Introduced in PennsylvaniaSenator Edwin Erickson introduced a new bill to Pennsylvania's state senate last week, following a study of gambling that concluded that online poker could produce revenues of almost $130 million annually for the state. This new bill leaves out a critical clause found in previous bills - “authorized game” - which means that not only poker games would be allowed, but other casino games as well. The “bad actor clause” from previous bills remains, which means that companies that accepted players from Pennsylvania after December 31, 2006 will be forbidden to participate. Bovada Says No to Delaware and NevadaBovada, the largest online poker site in the United States, has announced that they will no longer accept new players from Delaware and Nevada, two of the three states to have regulated online gaming. New Jersey, the third state, was banned from the site last month. New players who try to register from any of these states receive the following message: “We are sorry. We do not accept registrations from your state. For more information please contact us.”

888 to Review Luis Suarez Sponsorship following Biting Incident

Not only does he face a lengthy ban from football, Uruguay and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez might also lose his recently-struck sponsorship with 888 following the controversial biting incident in Thursday's crucial World Cup group game between Italy and Uruguay. Sponsorship up for "Serious Review" Only last month, Suarez became one of 888poker's official worldwide ambassadors, set to take part in the company's many initiatives for this summer's tournament and beyond. However, 888 were very quick to respond after the Uruguayan player apparently bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during Tuesday's game. In light of television pictures showing Suarez appearing to bite Chiellini's shoulder during an off-the-ball clash, Thursday saw 888's official account tweeting: "Following the allegations made against Luis Suarez in regards to his behaviour during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy, 888poker is seriously reviewing its relationship with the player as we will not tolerate any unsporting behavior". History of Controversy Following the incident, FIFA decided to open an official investigation. "FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the player Luis Suarez of Uruguay," the organization announced. Another major sponsor for Suarez is German sportswear giant Adidas. A spokesperson for the company said that the company waits to hear of the outcome of FIFA's investigation and then it will make a decision in regards to Suarez. While one of the most skilled forwards in international football today, Suarez also positioned himself as one of the most controversial ones. This is not the first time in which his teeth go to the wrong places and put him in trouble as he had already sunk his teeth into players twice in the past, things which cost him with lengthy bans from football. This time his bite in front of millions of eyes might cost him much more than that.

Poland Looking at Gambling Law Changes

The Polish Government and its people are nowadays engaged in a bugging affair which unleashed a political crisis in the country. However, before that happened, some good news for online gambling came out of the country's Ministry of Finance only three weeks ago. Gambling Act Changes The Polish Ministry of Finance has published a project which is set to amend the country's Gambling Act. The changes touch subjects like betting sites and charity lotteries, but the biggest change which is related to the iGaming world is the ministry's intention to allow companies from EU and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) to operate gambling businesses inside Poland. While this signals a generally very positive move towards aligning with EU gambling regulation laws, the set changes will set one obstacle in the paths of interested gambling operators: they would have to open an office in Poland itself. Missed Tax Revenues The projected alterations to the Polish gambling laws, if they will be enacted, are not surprising due to the country's estimated missed revenues due to its gambling restrictions: About PLN 600 million which amounts to approximately €142 million. Poland is missing out on a big chunk of the action, as seen by estimates by consulting firm Roland Berger which valued the country's online gambling market at PLN 4.9 billion back in February (a little over €1 billion). The same report estimated that with things as they are in the present, Poland is seeing just 9% of this potential amount in income from the four Polish operators which hold online betting licenses. With the country in a political crisis, the future of Poland's Gambling Act remains to be seen. If it does go further, it will be interesting to see how operators tackle the requirement for opening an office inside the country itself.

Ghana and Portugal Meet for Do or Die

The World Cup's Group G comes to a thrilling conclusion today as Germany meets USA at Recife, in a game that gave many conspiracy theorists hours of joy. But over at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia there will be a nonetheless interesting drama unfolding as Ghana clashes with Portugal at 5pm UK time. End of the Line Ranked third and fourth respectively, both teams have only one point to their name with Portugal trailing in goal difference having conceded six and scoring only two. While a draw between Germany and USA will see both Ghana and Portugal eliminated, other Germany-USA scores could have a whole different effect and goal difference is the name of the game. Ronaldo's Time to Shine Portugal missed the chance to secure a convenient spot after their big loss to Germany in the opening game, and their 2-2 draw against USA didn't contribute much either but that spectacular assist by Ronaldo to Silvestre Varela which brought the late equalizer gave the Portuguese something to hold on. Portugal must beat Ghana today and preferably with a high score as their goal difference is lackluster. The heavy weight lies mainly on one man's shoulders – Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite fighting injuries, Ronaldo gets a golden chance to shine today and give his team and country some relief – even if Germany and USA draw.    Ghana Despite the late equalizer by Germany's Miroslav Klose which brought the game to a 2-2 draw, Ghana looked spectacular in their game against the Germans, showing some excellent physique, speed and playmaking. If Ghana retains this top form from the last game we're up for a great display, however the Ghanaians have to adjust to missing some players like the suspended midfielder Sulley Muntari and the injured Michael Essien.

USA Battles Germany in Hopes to Advance

No one could write a more dramatic story line for the biggest game of the World Cup on Thursday, June 26th between the USA and Germany.  For the Americans, a win or a draw means they will be advancing from Group G into the knockout stage with fellow group-mates Germany.  The team's have met 9 times in the past with the Germans winning 6 and the US taking 3.   Talent on Both Sides The US men's team enjoyed a much deserved win against Ghana and a heartbreaking draw to Portugal which has put them in an interesting, albeit worrisome position for the game today.  Germany has destroyed their competition and even though some say they are not up to form on defense, they are still unbeaten and looking to make it a lossless group stage against the US. The US has no less than 5 German Americans playing for their side, as well as their coach, ex-German player Jurgen Klinsmann.  The team is focused and as we have seen does have lady luck on their side but they will need a lot more to even have a chance against Ze Germans! Germany has an unmatched list of talent headlined by Thomas Müller, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Özil, Marco Reus, Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Klose. Any team would like even one of those names on their side but Germany has them all.   bet365 Online Sportsbook - The Lines are In bet365 has posted their wagering lines for tonight's riveting game and as suspected Germany are the outright favorites at 1.66 to the 10.50 that the US is listed.  A draw is at 3.00 which could be the best bet you've ever made as there were talks between the US and German side to play for a draw so that the teams can both advance.   Don't miss out tonight, it's almost the end of the Group Stage and with a World Cup as wacky as this one it's only gonna get more interesting.
