According to US lottery statistics, young Americans aged between 24 and 34 are less likely to take part in lottery draws. Lottery is not a new invention; quite actually it has been around for a while, stretching back to the days of the Chinese Han Dynasty. People have always liked lottery and participated in it – so what's wrong? Could it be poor advertising? One of the main reasons ascribed to the dwindling of young Americans in US lotteries is the outdated way in which they are sold. Contrary to Europe, the act of buying a lottery ticket in the US is burdensome: Usually it requires a trip down to the shop, or using online subscription services that some state lotteries offer. Different Story in Europe In Europe, lottery is popular with young people, and the UK serves as a very good example to show that point: About 25 percent of UK lottery players are young people aged between 16 and 24. Most of them purchase their tickets not in the old traditional way but online via UK and European lotteries which let players buy online tickets straight away the likes of EuroMillions and UK Lotto, or using online lottery ticket agents. Millions around the world frequently take part in America's biggest lotteries like the Powerball and Mega Millions with the help of online lottery ticket agents like TheLotter and Ice Lotto – why should that be any different for Americans? US Lottery Should Switch Gears The popularity of buying online lottery tickets among young UK citizens leads to one very possible remedy for US lotteries: Switching gear and digitizing the process of purchasing lottery tickets. This does not mean closing lottery parlors, but only giving young people more options in which they can purchase their lottery tickets, that is - online.
After much speculation, Paypal will join the US regulated iGaming market, providing a huge boost to potential transaction volumes and overall trustability of online gaming in the US. The leading online payment processor is expected to begin processing payments for regulated poker and casino sites within the next few months, according to Online Poker Report sources. Paypal Branding The trustability and efficiency of Paypal would also streamline transactions for providers as well, who are currently struggling with alternative payment systems such as Visa and Mastercard that continue to carry decline rates of over 25%, or glitches that continue to manifest in electronic check systems. While alternative payment systems such as Neteller, Skrill, and site-specific debit cards have succeeded at a processing rate of nearly 100% acceptance abroad, these systems are not well-known to recreational players based in the United States or most potential US regulated markets. Paypal, however, is brand that is widely known and trusted in North America. Increasing Access With over 150 million active users worldwide, the addition of Paypal to the regulated gaming market in the United States is sure to appeal to more players, and attract increased traffic to regulated gaming sites. Paypal will certainly facilitate access and entry into gaming for all active Paypal users, who already commonly keep a positive Paypal balance on hand for quick purchasing transactions. Shouldering the Processing Load Paypal also handles credit card processing, eliminating the need for online providers to rely on the inefficient credit card processing systems that they currently are working with in other regulated markets. Further, Paypal has an e-check system that can be applied as a checking system to relieve the burden on online gaming providers of getting bogged down in check processing system glitches. Though a landmark development for the gaming industry in general, the inclusion of Paypal to the US regulated market comes as little surprise, due to the fact that Paypal has already been processing payments in European regulated online gambling markets for online poker rooms, sports books, and casinos.

Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park hosts today's German Super Cup match between home team and Bayern Munich (5pm UK time). The Super Cup is an idea borrowed from other leagues, where the top two clubs from the prior season meet for a season opener. Indeed, these two are the top clubs of German football. Dortmund Out for Revenge Dortmund and Bayern met in May for the final of the 2013/4 German Super Cup when Bayern won 2-0 with goals by Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller. Unlike Bayern, Dortmund is going to be under pressure to win this game also given the fact that it takes place at home. Coach Jurgen Klopp had to part with top striker Robert Lewandowski who moved to Bayern, but he was reinforced with Italy's Ciro Immobile, Mathias Ginter and Adrian Ramos. Dortmund's offense will be missing the injured Marco Reus. Dortmund was thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool earlier on Sunday in a pre-season friendly, so they have much to prove. No Pressure for Bayern Munich Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich is in top shape as displayed in the last season. The Bavarians are big favorites both for this season's Bundesliga competition and for the UEFA Champions League. One thing Bayern might be lacking today is players: Many of its players took part in the World Cup including a bulk of Germany's squad and Franck Ribery who is still out due to injury. It'll be interesting to see striker Robert Lewandowski who moved from the rival team to Bayern this year. Bet Live Winner Sports will be covering the game with pre-match and in-play bets. In full time result, Winner has 21/10 on Dortmund, 21/20 on Bayern Munich and 47/20 for a draw. Tune-in Winner today for this display of German football goodness and over 114 interesting betting markets.
Originally thought to be a beacon for national gaming legislation and regulation, the Denmark market has actually declined for the second year in a row. Second Quarter 2014 Figures Down Second quarter figures from 2014 released by Danish gambling authority Spillemyndigheden revealed a 20 percent decline from the same period in 2013. Online poker revenues dropped from Kr. 50 million ($8,982,789) registered in second quarter 2013 to AKr. 40 million ($7,186,231) for the 2014 second quarter. 2013 figures already represented a drop from revenues of Kr. 55 million ($9,881,067) in 2012. These projections have resulted in a further yearly revenue estimate from Spillemyndigheden of Kr. 180 million ($32,338,040) by year's end, a 7.7 percent decrease from 2013 and an 18.2 percent decrease from 2012. General Casino Games Still Strong Despite the online setbacks, general casino games remained fairly strong in Denmark. General casino gambling revenues rose 12.5 percent from Kr. 240 million ($43,117,387) in 2013 to Kr. 270 million ($48,507,060) in 2014. The World Cup also provided a nice boost to Denmark's betting market, with second quarter betting revenues seeing the highest volumes since the market was regulated. The FIFA event held every four years spurred the generation of Danish betting market revenues revenues of Kr. 445 million ($79,946,822), representing a robust 33 percent increase from the same quarter 2013's Kr. 335 million ($60,184,686). Regulatory Pioneer Part of the original appeal of the Danish market undoubtedly stems from the strong system in place for cracking down on illegal unregulated gambling sites, using domestic providers to block illegitimate sites. For example, Danish Internet service provider Three was recently instructed by Spillemyndigheden to block five suspected sites, identified as 7red.com, 7red.dk, quasargaming.com, wintrillions.com and trillonario.com. Not only were these sites operating without licenses from the Danish government, but they had ignored previous warnings to cease operations or be locked out of the market. Earlier similar moves by the Spillemyndigheden include the 2012 blocks imposed on 12 unlicensed gambling companies serving Danish customers including Betclic Everest subsidiary Bet-At-Home and group of Playtech-powered sites including Titan Poker. The Danish government was one of the first to impose systemised crackdowns on unregulated providers, but that has not sparked improved performance in the Danish regulated market as of yet, and at this juncture the Danish market does not seem immune to recent declines in online gaming across Europe's regulated markets.

The World Cup brought two weeks of heavy betting, but failed to rescue the sagging fortunes of bookmaking giant Ladbrokes. The Online Adaptation Struggle The existence of Ladbrokes in its current form is tangibly in doubt, as the traditional bookmaking giant struggles with the transition to online business while closing physical shops across the UK. The main problem for Ladbrokes appears to be its inability to meet the competition in the increasingly prominent online gaming sector. To address the situation, Ladbrokes signed an agreement with Israeli company Playtech, which had already established a niche through successfully adapting William Hill's digital capabilities to the online environment. A year later, Ladbrokes is still in the process of completing the technological integration, and reaping the hoped for rewards that full implementation would yield. With the delay, Ladbrokes digital earnings have suffered significantly. Despite the World Cup boost, Ladbrokes reported digital earnings were down 72% from a low base. In the interim six months to June, Ladbrokes' online business yielded a disappointing £3m in operating profits. In the same period, William Hill's digital business earned £92m. Digital proceeds at William Hill account for 52% of operating profits, but only a meager 4.4% of Ladbrokes'. Ladbrokes Take Ladbrokes chief executive Richard Glynn acknowledged the delays, saying: "We said a few years ago that Ladbrokes needed to dramatically increase its presence in the digital and mobile world. I think I've been very upfront about the fact that it's taken us a while to do that. The road has been bumpy at times. The product didn't match the brand." However, Glynn does not proclaim failure, He claims that the company's World Cup deadline to resolve online issues was met, but the wait for translating World Cup profits into growth continues. In anticipation of the World Cup, Ladbrokes increased its football bookmaking focus, resulting in a 20% jump in betting over the 2010 tournament. This did not translate to cumulative profits overall, undoubtedly due to the delays Ladbrokes is experiencing in the online transition.
