The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will be offering law students a new Master of Laws program in gaming law and regulation. The first classes are set to begin fall 2015 with application materials already available on the program's website. This first of its kind program will focus on the many fine lines of the regulatory gambling world and the world of iGaming as a whole, with classes ranging from online gaming and sports betting to problem gambling and data privacy issues. More US-specific courses will cover US gaming law, federal gaming law and Indian gaming. The Future of Gaming Lawyers The new program will a part of the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law which already offers the largest number of gaming law classes compared to other schools in the US. The UNLV is responsible for a lot of gaming research taking place in the country, with research conducted by the Center of Gaming Research operating in the university's Lied Library. Vegas Location an Advantage Speaking on the new program, Dean of the Boyd School of Law Daniel W. Hamilton said that the university's location gives it a unique advantage. Hamilton stressed the importance of the new program, recognizing the field's growth: "Gaming law is a sophisticated and growing field both nationally and internationally, and our goal is to be the national leader in training those interested in gaming law". Multibillion-Dollar Industry Deserves a Program Leading the new program will be Ngai Pindell, associate dean of academic affairs at the Boyd School of Law. Speaking on the new program, Pindell noted how the time has come to seriously recognize the prominent gaming industry. According to Pindell, since its establishment in 1998 the school has solidified its identity as a top public law school. "Now the time is right to embrace the school’s role as a leader in the field. Gaming is a flourishing multibillion-dollar industry and is continuing to expand its footprint worldwide."
