Attorney General Nominee Lynch Guarded About Reinterpreting Wire Act

The online gambling industry is watching with baited breath as Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch clarifies her stance on the 2011 interpretation of the Interstate Wire Act of 1961. Online Gaming Industry Watches Reinterpretation of the Wire Act by the Department of Justice in 2011 opened the doors for regulated online gambling in the states of Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware. The Lynch responses currently under scrutiny were provided to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as follow-up questions to her January 28 confirmation hearing. Pointed Questions The questioning was led by Senators Lindsay Graham (R-South Carolina) and Diane Feinstein (D-California), the latter of whom requested a commitment from Lynch to direct Department lawyers to re-examine the Office of Legal Counsel’s 2011 re-interpretation of the Wire Act. Reinterpretation is an essential issue in the gaming industry, due to its previous application to virtually all forms of gambling, serving to prohibit online gambling across the board in the United States. The landmark 2011 reading applied the prohibitive Wire Act only to sports betting, but not other forms of gambling, ostensibly opening the door for state consideration of online regulation. Disavows Reinterpretation Lynch wrote that upon confirmation she would review the Office of Legal Counsel's opinion, but wrote that to her understanding, “OLC opinions are rarely reconsidered,” implying that ultimately as Attorney General Lynch has no plans to change the interpretation any further in either direction. RAWA Unfavorable to Industry A more telling indication of Lynch's stance may be revealed later in the year, when Senator Graham is expected to reintroduce the Restoration of America's Wire act later this year, a measure which if approved would apply the scope of the Wire Act to potentially all forms of online gambling again.  The key for industry players in America is the limitation of the scope of the Wire Act to sporting wager activity. If RAWA were to pass, the potential for online gambling in more states would be severely curtailed.

Punto Banco Grows in Popularity in Latin America

Punto Banco is an offshoot of the wildly popular Baccarat, which is growing in popularity throughout many Latin American countries, especially Mexico. The chance for enormous payouts is far too attractive not to learn about this card game, which can now be found at land-based, online and even mobile casinos. It is well known that many people in Mexico believe in fate. Punto Banco is won or lost strictly according to fate, which could be the reason for its popularity therein. Punto Banco vs Baccarat The main difference between Punto Banco and land-based Baccarat is that the lesser of the two is dealt abiding by a strict set of rules and only by the bank (the house). Online Baccarat is undistinguishable from Punto Banco, as online Baccarat follows the same rule regarding the dealer. Punto Banco is played using six standard card decks. Players can make bets up to €10,000 per hand, and there is a maximum 9 to 1 payout for ties. There are three betting options on the Punto Banco table: Bank, Player and Draw. There is always a minimum four cards dealt and a maximum of six. It is crucial to know that nine is the maximum number in the game and all face cards including ten amount to zero.   Punto Blanco Tips and Strategies Probably the most important Punto Banco strategy is in the knowledge that if you do not bet on a tie and the table draws, you get your bet returned to you. In addition, unlike blackjack, players are not against the dealer in Punto Banco so they should not be weary of placing a bet on one. Online Punto Banco The popularity of land-based Baccarat means it may be hard to find a Punto Banco table at a brick and mortar. However, there is no shortage of online Punto Banco versions, with one of the best created by NetEnt, which can be found at Winner Casino and Slotty Vegas Casino.

In anticipation for the red carpet, we take a look at some of the hottest predictions for tonight's Oscar winners and how their odds match at bookie William Hill Sports. Best Picture: Birdman or Boyhood The best showdown in this year's Best Picture category is going to be between Alejandro G. Innaritu's Birdman and Richard Linklater's Boyhood. Opposed to the last few years when the prize served as a final seal of approval, tonight the two movies are matched very close. In outright bets at William Hill, Birdman had the slight edge on Boyhood with 8/13 to 5/4. Some say American Sniper and The Grand Budapest Hotel could surprise and these were 40/1 to win at Hill. Best Actors and Actresses It's also crowded at the Oscar markets for Best Actors and Actresses. For male actor, Eddie Redmayne is a strong nominee for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything with 1/4 to win. Michael Keaton was second best in odds with 11/4 to win for his Birdman role. Some estimate that it will be Bradley Cooper who'll steal the show for his role in American Sniper, and he was 25/1 to win at Hill. In odds, the actress category is a little less tense with Julianne Moore's 1/50 odds to win for her role in Still Alice. Reese Witherspoon followed with 16/1 to win for Wild and Rosamund Pike could very well scoop the prize for her fantastic performance in Gone Girl – she was 25/1 to win at Hill. J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette - Almost Sure Bets In the Best Supporting Actor category everyone pretty much agrees that J.K. Simmons will win for his fantastic portrayal of a ruthless music conductor in Whiplash – William Hill gave him 1/50 to win. Premier League Odds and Live Betting: Crucial Game for the Reds

Southampton is set to face Liverpool tonight at St. Mary's stadium to end Matchday 26. Southampton currently reside in fourth place with 46 points. However, nipping at their heels have been Arsenal, Tottenham and finally Liverpool in seventh with 42 points. The last time the Saints met the Reds was in August 2014 at Anfield. Liverpool used the home field advantage to net a goal in '79 and hold on to win 2-1. Ronald Koeman, Head Coach of the Saints is feeling confident about their chances tonight even though they lost the previous match-up.  Team Scope Southampton has been terrific to watch this season. They waited for quite some time to become in a regular top five position in the Premier League, and now that they have one, they'll do what it takes to hold on. Jay Rodriguez has been the top sniper for the Saints playing a total 68 games for Southampton and scoring 21 goals. They will also be counting on their strong depth off the sidelines, as they want a fast-paced game against Liverpool in order to overwhelm them.  Liverpool has struggled this season but have started to turn it around. In their last six matches, the Reds have not lost even once, winning four and two, which ended in a draw. Just last week they beat Tottenham 3-2 and the Spurs are now just one point ahead of the Reds. Brendan Rodgers has been quite good at creating a team that can beat any other in the Premier League but something is to be said about their consistency. bet365 Props The Saints are favored by bet365 sports at 2.50, but the Reds are just a couple tenths behind at 2.80. Not a very big profit margin so luckily there are dozens of props to choose from for tonight's match. If Liverpool can win 0-1 tonight, the odds are paying out at 9.50 and 8.50 for Southampton pending the same score. Correct Score is an excellent and exciting choice to bet on. All in all 85 separate betting markets to choose from, each with its own potential for lucrative winnings.

How Bettors Faired at the Oscars

It was a star-clad night in Hollywood, as the greatest in the industry came out with their finest threads on. It must have been a tough decision to crown the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress categories with such amazing movies and actors/actresses to choose from this year. It was also interesting to see some of the biggest odds drawing out punters to make bets on the awards show, which proved profitable for the right bets. Academy Winners and Wager Results The biggest Oscar of the night for Best Picture was awarded to Alejandro González Iñárritu for the Birdman starring Michael Keaton, which is a story about an actor desperately trying to make a comeback through Broadway. For punters that placed bets on the Birdman (8/13 to win), took home $1.62 for every $1 wagered. There are reports of some serious winnings for punters that wagered hundreds on the best picture. Best Actor was another tough category but it ultimately went to the favorite Eddie Redmayne for his incredible portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the Theory of Everything. Redmayne played the role of his life and looked like he was meant to play the part. The profit margin was not the biggest for punters for this category, as it paid out 1/4. Favored to win at 80% means that winners would have pocketed $1.25 for every $1 wagered. Julianne Moore was named Best Actress of the Year for her awe-inspiring role as Dr. Alice Howland suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Moore was the big favorite to win over Reese Witherspoon in Wild and Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl. The favorite won at 1/50, which did draw quite a few bets even  considering pay would have been $1.02 for every $1. Betting on TV events is an exciting way to watch the biggest awards shows, reality TV shows and even song competitions. Odds can get very high, which is the reason these markets are so popular.

New Jersey Online Poker Revenues Climb

Despite the challenges, fears, and tweaks, New Jersey state is showing robust growth in online gambling. The latest encouraging news comes from the positive growth posted by online poker for the second month running. NJDGE Reports Boom A January report released by New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) revealed that all four of the state's licensed operators experienced increased revenue growth from December to January after modest growth in December reversed a three month trend of decline. This is an encouraging sign amidst the controversy that still revolves around legalized gambling, and legalized online gambling, which has led to warnings and concerns about sustainability. That and the shortfalls to original projections by Governor Christie have been answered resoundingly by the turning of the corner for 2015. The fact is, the rewards for surviving the growing pains may be close at hand. The new boom was earmarked by an 8% increase the state of New Jersey experienced in regulated online gaming revenue for January, for a total intake of $11,567,337 after December's healthy take of $10,736,118. Online, the story was even better, as internet poker revenues jumped a full 12% to approximately $2.3 million in revenues. The boom is attributed to activity by online operators such as Partypoker NJ and BorgataPoker, who in January jointly hosted the Garden State Super Series (GSSS) II. On another front, WSOP NJ and 888poker NJ pooled their resources to share liquidity in some tournaments and cash games as well. Co-operation Among Competitors Key to Market Survival Clearly, in these touch and go opening months of regulation, co-operation among competing casinos is the key to increased profits and survival of the newest revenue source available. The online option is moving forward in baby steps, and now is not the time for competition among New Jersey casinos, but cooperation so that a market arises on which to compete in the hopefully for the gaming industry relatively near future.
