Manchester City's super striker Carlos Tevez has emerged as the second favorite to top the scoring list in the 2010/11 English Premiers League season, following his double at Blackpool on the weekend. Tevez, who leads the scoring with seven goals from eight games, is 11/4 at William Hill to claim the honor for the first time. He trails Chelsea's Didier Drogba, who is 7/4 despite being one goal behind in the standings. City is now 5/1 third favorite to win the title after closing to within two points of Chelsea at the top. Chelsea is still odds-on at 8/13, while Manchester United, equal third in the league with Arsenal and Tottenham, is 4/1. Arsenal is 8/1 and Spurs way back at 80/1. Chelsea is 10/11 to remain top of the table for the entire season. William Hill has also slashed drastically its odds for Wayne Rooney to leave Manchester United during the January transfer window, following news reports that he is on his way out of Old Trafford. Although Rooney is still 1/3 to remain at United through to January, cashed-up arch rival Manchester City is now 9/2 to claim the superstar. Real Madrid is 6/1, Barcelona 12/1 and Chelsea 16/1. Liverpool, struggling in the relegation zone of the Premier League, is 100/1 to entice Rooney to Anfield.
Poker Stars will launch its new regional championships in the coming weeks, allowing players to compete for local bragging right and more than $7 million in cash prizes. Swedish company Net Entertainment has become the latest company to enter the lucrative branded online gaming market, thanks to a new multi-year licensing agreement with Universal Partnerships and Licensing. An Australian bank has introduced a slightly different way of attracting new customers, launching a new savings account that puts deposit holders into a monthly draw for A$20,000 (roughly equivalent to US$20,000). The Bank of Queensland announced the new "Save To Win" accounts at a recent profit announcement. Under the account scheme, which will be available from November, customers must have a minimum of A$250 in their account to be entered into the lottery and the chance to win the monthly cash prize. Other smaller cash prizes will also be rewarded to customers, who must only maintain a balance of $250 to gain automatic entry each month. Every dollar over the $250 mark will be equivalent to one ticket in the draw, meaning customers holding more money in the account will increase their chances of winning. However, the maximum number of opportunities to enter the draw will be capped at 30,000 for a single account. A spokesman for the bank rejected suggestion the bank was encouraging gambling, saying that the Bank of Queensland still offered many other savings options, including accounts with higher interest rates. He said the lottery accounts were targeted at customers who held less money in their accounts, and would therefore be attracted by the possibility of winning such a large amount of cash.
American poker professional Phil Hellmuth, the holder of 11 World Series of Poker bracelets, can now lay claim to a less coveted title - that of world's most hated poker player. The now four-year long battle to legalize online gambling in the USA could rest on the result of the upcoming mid-term elections, to be contested on November 2.
