The US Open Championship has gotten underway yesterday in New York. The US Open draws special attention yearly because it is the fourth and last major Grand Slam of the year. Having won the last two US Open championships, Williams will certainly be looking to end her abysmal year with a third consecutive title. Roger Federer seems to be in top form: He finished runner-up in Wimbledon and Toronto and won in Cincinnati. The 33 year old Swiss warned that he is coming into this tournament with great confidence, and that confidence can further be boosted by the absence of rival Rafa Nadal who will not attend the tournament due to wrist problems. Federer begins his route to the title today at 3pm UK time where he meets Australian world No. 76 Marikno Matosevic. Federer already met Matosevic in the Australian Open earlier this year where he beat him in straight sets. Djokovic and Murray Federer will have to mind two big names vying for the title: 2011 winner Novak Djokovic and 2012 winner Andy Murray. Having beaten Federer in the Wimbledon final earlier this summer, Novak will be keen to secure two Grand Slams consecutively; yesterday he beat Diego Schwartzman in the third round 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. Murray battled muscle cramps as he was beating Robin Haase 6-3, 7-6, (8/6), 1-6, 7-5.Stan Wawrinka, winner of this year's Australia Open, is also a player to watch, having beaten his competition Milos Raonic in straight sets.
